Should I leave my husband if he is doing this?
Should I leave my husband if he is doing this?
My husband work as a driving instructor. He's always busy in summer but in winter, he got a plnty of time with me and my daughter. He would never help me out with the baby and housework. I would always do things around the house when baby sleeps and take care of baby when she wakes up and I hav to clean up after him all the time. I haven't gone out of the house since she was born. I totally understand when he woreds hard and he was tired, so he couldn't help me. Even it's winter now, he doesn't have much students but still he said he's tired.. I was complainig sometimes but always do everything. However, he was just always pissing me off. I asked him to watch our baby for 5 mins coz i needed to take a shower after feeding her. it's been the whole day that I cooked, cleaned and did laundry. I was exhausted. I was in a shower for 2 mins and heard the baby cried, so i sneaked out to see what was my husband doing. He was just playing games on computer and let her cry it out. He just never wants to do anything with the baby and th house but when the baby cried in front of me. He would just say that I'm a bad mom. Why did I let his baby cry. When she needs to change her diaper, he would just wait to tell me to go change her. I can count how many times he hold our baby since she was born. What do you think I should do? Sometimes, I was thinking I should have leave him alone here.. I'm from Thialand and have a student visa and my husband is from Poland and he is waiting for his greencard. Do I need his permission to leave the country since we both are not american citizen but the baby was born here. we got married in las vegas but never done anything officially for our paper. We don't even get our daughter's birth certificate yet because he is so lazy. We only have our daughter's birth certificate from hospital..Can I go and get her birth certificate for her by my own or do I need him to go with? I don't wanna wait for him to go with me anymore since he is always procasinate. I wanted to get her passport but not sure if I need him.

You can easily obtain her birth certificate on your own.

I'm Polish and I know Polish men can be terrible :-/ I would talk to him because not helping his own wife in house work is very uncool. He should help you do this stuff. Maybe do a compromise with him or something. If talks won't help then I would consider leaving him because I wouldn't want my daughter seeing how her father doesn't give a crap about anything. My boyfriend was the same ( we dont have kids tho) but he NEVER helped me to do anything. I tried NOT doing anything and leaving everything dirty in our place but that didn't help because I couldn't stand living in a dirty place, so I told him to at LEAST clean after himself. Put the dishes into the sink, dirty laundry in the bathroom etc. He agreed and it worked. Sometimes he even will wash the dishes. That's something. Hope it helps. Good luck

Sounds like my ex. husband. What I'd do is to take care of the baby and stop taking care of him. Don't pick up after him, don't make meals for him, and explain that if he can't help you, when you take a shower, then you can't help him either. Why do you need him? You can get a job, get support from him, and find a new guy who would be willing to be a better partner to you. Go get her passport. You do not need him to do this. Enough waiting for him. I think he thinks that you are his maid and caregiver. Why put up with this?
5 :
Well it's ok for the baby to cry it off. but him not helping you and telling you that you are a bad mom after you do all for the baby and him....that's just not right. I don't know if he needs to be there but I would try on my own instead of waiting on him. Give him and option....either he helps you or you are out, since it doesn't seem he's around anyway.
6 :
Why do people ever get married? If he was slightly lazy and put things off before marriage it was bound to get worse afterwards. You can't just take off with the baby..the last time I knew you both had to make that child NOT just YOU! That would not be a very wise thing to do. Unless you want the courts involved and him coming after you and maybe in the end you losing you're child and going to jail. And whats wrong with talking things out? The answer isn't just to throw in the towel..oh he gets lazy..let me just run! That's crazy I'm sorry..sit down, talk to him in a nice way..tell him you need a little more help and in turn try doing nice things for him..it will give him the incentive to help you more.
7 :
think things straight out and i do think that you need his permission to leave the country with your daughter to get a pass port ....... talk to him about what you don't like that he keeps doing....
8 :
You should leave now.
9 :
You can do all those things without him. Get a birth certificate for your daughter, take her home to Thailand, and never look back. Your Polish husband is a woman hater, a user, and is emotionally abusing you. he does not love you or your daughter. You are just there for housework, childcare, and sex. Get out now.
10 :
Sounds like he is around for his green card. I'm sure you would have to produce some sort of paper work to leave the country. You can go get the birth certificate or if you have internet access you might be able to log onto vitalchek.com and get the birth certificate. Eventually you need to move on from this man. He has no care, at least it seems. Your daughter will sense this. Find someone who will be your companion and love you and your daughter.
11 :
I would be gone. Why don't you already have a copy of the BC? You can go get this on your own, don' t need him, for anything apparently, oh except his income, I can assume you don' t have a job. But personally, I would of left his ass a long time ago and went back to Thialand.
12 :
LOL a drivers instructer tired? My uncle is one. And he has 2 other jobs as a football coach and a teacher. He has a girlfriend and always has time for her. Sounds like hes just being lazy! Geez, I'd find a way to get out of that for a while.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1042425/Why-ignore-bad-spelling-Lecturer-calls-amnesty-students-20-errors.html?ITO=1490 Why are British students so bad at spelling their own language? (And other native English speakers too, especially Americans.) Here are some comments from non-native English speakers, and I agree with them: Paula, Italy: I am a foreigner, I studied your beautiful, elegant, expressive language as a foreign language, and I don't make spelling mistakes. Most of my friends and colleagues who also studied it as a foreign language don't make any spelling mistakes either. We're not an educated elite, we studied English in very average, ordinary schools, no more than three or four hours a week. How come British "students" cannot manage? Eve, Poland: This idea is ridiculous. Besides, I don't understand how people can make such mistakes in their own language. English is my second language and I wouldn't be caught dead misspelling these words. CC7, Switzerland: I'm not a native English speaker and yet I would write all the words in this list correctly. That's called "learning", and it should also -especially- go for native speakers! Wilma, Netherlands: My Dutch students were extremely surprised when I told them that lots of English people could not distinguish between "there" and 'their" and "it's" and 'its". By the way English is my third language. Raymond, Germany: I am a language trainer in Luxembourg and to give in to the bad spellers is a capitulation which signals how little respect British people have for their own language. German, French and even Polish speakers don't suffer similar problems because they are taught to hold their language in high regard. (...) I tell my international language training participants to ask Scandinavians or Dutch people how to write if I am not there to help. Furthermore, I know one British person at the place I work whose letters are corrected by his French boss because they are full of mistakes. Anthony, Malta: I learnt the English Language at a state school in Malta fifty years ago. Thankfully great emphasis was laid on this most important of languages then and now. Spelling mistakes were anathema. How can people, born and bred in England, be unable to spell words in their own language ? How low can standards in this once Great country get ? Hmm, after I saw your answers, I guess now I know why. You just don't care. And if you don't care, please don't answer the question. Why are you people offended? I asked a serious question here. Aren't you ashamed of the fact that you don't know your own language and that foreigners have to correct you? Most of you didn't even bothered to read this, then how could I expect you to read a book. Oops sorry, I mean "didn't even bother", not "bothered". Sorry, I was typing too fast.

That is so funny because of the missed spelled words! LOL I studied Spanish for a long time and can say that when you learn it as a second language you pay more attention to details. When you are a native speaker you tend to become lazy because you know people will understand you. Plus in today's society with all of the texting many words have been shortened. I have a professor that actually had to remind my junior college English class that your thesis papers couldn't use text talk, aka U for you, and that OMG is not a sentence.

I don't know why people insist on repeating this question over and over, but thank you for your ignorance and your two points.
9 :

10 :
I've thought about this before too. I think it's because people who are born and raised in an English-speaking environment only learn the language from hearing it and from experience, not in a classroom. For most spelling and grammar rules only come when they begin attending formal schooling. Thus, speaking the language comes more easily than writing or spelling it. Those who learn English as a second language learn it in a formal, classroom environment, where the rules of spelling and grammar are taught to them straight away.
11 :
Apparently Paula, Eve, CC7, Wilma, Raymond and Anthony are all better then us and we suck.....whatever
12 :
Gee I don't know, maybe it's because we are busy doing other things like protecting the freedom and rights of others to write opinions like you just did. xox

I think one of the reasons may be the fact that they have a lot of exposure to casual English that interferes with the proper way of spelling and grammar. Also as all native speakers of any language, those who make spelling / grammatical errors may be using their intuitive knowledge of their language rather than rules to decide what is correct and incorrect. Nonnative speakers of English, on the other hand, encounter other types of difficulties when writing or speaking: the proper use of the prepositions, pronunciation, intonation, word stress, sentence stress, interference of the first language, the culture to mention only a few.

I ask this question last week but I was was referring to American students ,their spelling and grammar is terrible . I don't the emphasis is on spelling in schools today like it was when I was a child. We had to read and spell out loud parrot fashion round the class .
2 :
It's much easier to misspell in your own language. Instead of seeing each word as a collection of letters, you see it as a unit in itself. This makes it much easier to spell poorly. In any case, it's ridiculous. I went to a below average state school. I spell perfectly.
3 :
i don't think i have a problem with spelling or grammar. Sometimes i just can't be bothered (especially on here) to spell and punctuate correctly, which is just pure laziness. if i'm writing an essay or a doing a piece of academic work, then i think the majority of people can pull their finger out and write to a good standard. however there is a large amount of young children growing up today who do not have adequate reading and writing abilities, and i think it's down to modern day schooling.
4 :
People who learn English as their first language speak and write the vernacular version . . . A textbook gives a much more formally standardized "education" than does real life. There is also the factor that foreigners feel pressure to make up for other aspects of speaking the language (like heavy accents, etc.) My grandmother was a Norwegian immigrant and was very strict with her kids on grammar because she herself had a thick accent, which held a certain social stigmatism in her day. I'm an American who has taught English as a foreign language in China and here in the U.S. and I definitely agree that overall my students' spelling is much better than that of native peers their same age in the U.S. I'm not saying either way is better, but the differences are interesting nonetheless.

A question to Teacher of English as a foreign language.?
A question to Teacher of English as a foreign language.?
Hi :) I'm a student of English Philology living in Poland, Europe. I have some questions concerning my tomorrow's lesson. That is, I have to prepare vocabulary lesson about job&work for students learning English as their L2 and being on intermediete level. I have no idea how to start the lesson - can you think of any good and interesting warm-up? I would also like to do with them some reading and listening. Can you think of any interesting activities with the use of visuals or any other aids? I'm so nervous because I'm in the Foreign Language Teacher Training College and this is going to be my first lesson ever! I think I have no vocation for being a teacher of English - been here just because I love learning English ;) so need your help!! Thanks a lot :)

The first thing to do is relax and be confident. You know more than they do. I would start my class with a sort of activity that taps into their previous knowledge about whatever you are teaching. Some trivia questions might do the trick, or you may chose to perform a game. Keep in mind not to get carried away by these activities and you should allocate no more than 10 minutes. Then you can explain the new vocabulary by interacting with the students, or by model ling it (have a volunteer from the class and work with him). That's what I would do. Remember, being confident is 75% of the work.
2 :
i would need more details about the class: 1. is it an academic program at a college, or an informal conversation class? 2. what do you mean by intermediate? how much training did they have beforehand? is it say the 2nd semester of a 4 semester program, or the 2nd month of a beginner program? 3. does the school stress student-centered instruction, or teacher-centered? in other words, do they expect the students to be active or for you to demonstrate your ability? 4. how will you be evaluated? 5. are you a student in the class itself, or a graduate student doing a practicum?

I have university questions about med school. Please help?
I have university questions about med school. Please help?
I am a student from a Central European country, Poland, which now belongs to the EU. I study in the IB system and I'm aiming for studying at an American university, preferably Ivy League. My questions are: 1) Do I have a chance of getting in? I have always had very good results academically. I finished my freshmen year with a 6.1 average out of possible 7.0. I did very good in my exams, scoring 5/6 and 6/6 in every of them except one where I had 4/6. I got awards for outstanding achievement in mathematics, art and humanities. I participated in three after-school activities and have a lot of interests like painting, writing, traveling, windsurfing and others. I plan on getting even higher results academically in my sophomore year, also participating in more after-school activities and doing MUN to widen the range of my interests. I've also had a quite interesting storyline of life. 2) What are the financial policies of Ivy League universities? I heard that Ivy League colleges first accept the student, and then they worry about their finances, and that many students' tuition is covered entirely by the school. Is this true? How does it work? 3) Which of the Ivy League colleges is the easiest/hardest to get into? 4) I plan on either going to med school or interior design, or maybe even a more humanities-related subject if I get into Ivy League. But my biggest area is dental medicine. 5) Currently, I’m in the IB system, which guarantees that you will get into most universities without exams (if you finish, of course). If I get an IB Diploma, do I have to take SATs to get into Ivy League? 6) What are other great universities in the United States or United Kingdom, or generally in Europe, that are on the educational level of Ivy League? If you've got anything else to add, or you are a graduate of any Ivy League college, please feel welcome to share your thoughts with me. Thanks!

Hi, The Ivy League consists of the finest institutions known to man. I don't know how your exams work, but the schools are very strict about admissions exams. I think you would have to take at least the SAT, maybe more. IB is not considered much in the Ivy League, it is a usual standard for the students. The schools are very competitive, but your test scores and your unique situation may get you admission. Good luck!

i need you help and feedback on this essay!!?
This is for a scholarship, please point out any mistakes, even content related. THANKS!!!!! When at the age of thirteen I stepped into a plane heading for America, I had no idea of what lay ahead of me. My parents repeatedly told me that in the United States I would have a better future, and a chance to pursue a fulfilling career. In Poland, I was always a good student, but in America I had to do more than excel at schoolwork. I had to conquer the challenge of learning a new language and assimilating myself to a distinct culture. Fortunately, I was blessed with a caring, motivating family and an education that I learned to love and appreciate. My family always stressed the impact of learning, and the results that a college education can bring. However, I did not decide to go to college because it might grant me prestige or a better financial status. For me, learning is a joy in itself and I think that it celebrates human dignity. Reason makes people commit moral actions, which in turn contribute to peace and order in society as a whole. College so far has shown me how wide the horizons of knowledge really are, and how much more there is still to learn. I have a strong urge to complete my education with a master or a doctoral degree. I exactly remember when I was four years old and my grandmother thought me how to read. It was probably the best gift anyone could give me. Since then I began collecting books and uncovering new realms of imagination. It is mostly my love for reading that made me dream of becoming an English major. I think that if I can become a literature professor and translate this wisdom into others’ lives, then I can shape them into better human beings. What’s more, I would receive enormous satisfaction from constantly teaching and learning. When I volunteered at a kindergarten there was nothing more satisfying to me than seeing a spark of insight on a child’s face. This scholarship would be extremely helpful because my family’s funds are limited.Although my parents received college degrees in Poland, their inability to speak English lowered their chances of getting good jobs. Nevertheless, they inspired me to work hard and to dedicate myself to helping others. Being from a different country does not discourage me from learning, on the contrary it motivates me to be outstanding. The fear that I experienced when I walked into that plane five years ago, had passed. Now I am left with motivation, curiosity and a dream of an influential career that I have yet to fulfill.

good, except a larger vocabulary might help, im 13 and a half and I use more intricate words in my writing than you did, but I generally like your style though there isn't much dictation over the reader's mind and point of view when reading this.

Your English is really good!! Almost nothing sounds awkwardly worded or anything. There are just a few mistakes: On line 20, you put, "my grandmother thought"... you misspelled "taught". It should be "my grandmother taught". "I think that if I can become a literature professor and translate this wisdom into others’ lives, then I can shape them into better human beings." The following sounds better: "I think that if I can become a literature professor and translate this wisdom into others’ lives, I can shape them into better human beings." "Being from a different country does not discourage me from learning, on the contrary it motivates me to be outstanding." This sentence has incorrect punctuation. It should have a semi-colon, like this: "Being from a different country does not discourage me from learning; on the contrary, it motivates me to be outstanding." "The fear that I experienced when I walked into that plane five years ago, had passed." This contains an unnecessary comma. Instead, try this: "The fear that I experienced when I walked into that plane five years ago had passed." Those are the only errors I found! Good job. I'm also working on my scholarship applications today... I guess I'm lucky in that I'm doing them in my first language. Haha. Good luck!

What do do with my spear time?
What do do with my spear time?
I am a medical student from Norway, studying in Poland in the second year. This semester I have allot of spear time, something I am not used with. I want to use this time to do something "cool" and interesting. I look at myself as a charismatic person with a wide variety of interests and skills. I have thought of e.g Write some articles and try to have them published, try to do some research about something that interests me, learn a useful skill etc. Generally speaking, doing something which I can have benefits of later in life, personally and in my career. But I cant think of anything yet! Do anyone have a good idea?

Start chucking those spears! I think you mean "spare time".
3 :
You might consider an English class, to help you in your spelling...
4 :
If you have "spear" time then try practicing to throw the javelin for the Olympics. Or go hunting.
5 :
how about SPEAR throwing in your SPARE time!
6 :
I would practice on standard archery targets at about 20 meters.
7 :
spare* and volunteer
8 :
you can try using your spear to catch fish or lance it at targets far away. maybe you can train throwing the spear as far as you can and hopefully qualify for the javelin team in the next olympics. just dont impale anyone with the spear.
9 :
Shame on all you people! Making fun of a simple spelling mistake made by someone whose first language is probably not English. Oh! ha ha ha! My advice would be to read some of the classics. Perhaps Shakespare.
10 :
make your own porn video.

Cheating 23yrs.how do?
Cheating 23yrs.how do?
I previously posted a question on what to write to my cheating husband of 23 years, most of you said there's really not much to write. I him 6 times,he said it was just emotional, now i found out he was living with a foreign exchange student that he hired from poland for 5 months in our bed at our vacation home where he was opening a restaurant. I spoke with her she admitted all the details(she back in her country)and wants forgiveness because she was only 19 when this happened. I filed for divorce, and I've been vomiting up to 3times per day, they just released me from the hospital with 8 bleeding ulcers, I still feel like crap and he brought me flowers, still won't admit it, how do i live in this house will him for the next 60 days. not only that, he got us into forclusure we lost the other home and he used the money to fund his business. I feel so stupid how do i get the strength to get through this shattered life?

That is a lot to have to deal with. Is there no where else you can stay while you wait for divorce to go through? It is going to be hard to be in the same house with him. If you have to stay, you have to gather yourself up and consciensly put a guard up and refuse to engage him.

Cheating is something that goes on a lot everywhere. It is so common that i would probably have to say a lot of men and women who are married do it. I know how you feel. As little girls people learn to have this great wedding and great husband and etc. Well sometimes life throws you a curve ball. In your case it is several curve balls. This is what you need to do. Don't go digging deeper. Just let it be. Sometime it is better not to know than to know. Just leave him and don't ask for additional detail. Just remember you have done nothing wrong. He has to live with this for the rest of his life.
11 :
You need to dig deep inside yourself to figure out whether you can forgive him. 1. The interesting thing about the pain you are suffering is that you perceive it as inflicted by him. Do you know that the pain you are feeling is due to his deceit and your perception that you are the victim? 2. While it is true that you are the victim, the forgiveness you (and only you) have the power to offer may affect him in a small way. He might be relieved. 3. The truth about forgiveness is that it actually affects and cleanses and purifies the person forgiving. I have felt victimized by deceit - it took me a long time to forgive the person who deceived me. 4. It did not affect her that I held that enmity in my heart; it affected me; it affected my personal relationships with my friends/ my family/ my future girlfriend. 5. It may sound backwards but the sooner you forgive him - the better you will feel and the sooner you can move on. Good luck, strength comes from community - look to your family, and your church. Sharing this story over and over will hurt, but each time you share it will become a little less painful. You may also need to be on a PPI (e.g. Nexium or Prevacid) - talk to an ENT, or a GE Dr.

The bad aspect is not having a long time to rest and not to being with my family on the holidays. i did an interview to get a little more insight on pediatric nursing. Patricia is a 30 year old pediatric nurse with 3 children. She says the best part of her work is helping to improve the quality of the life of children and their families.. She studied for many years to specialize in this profession. She says “It has been somewhat difficult since it took so much time studying". She says the best thing about this job is saving the lives of children. She is so thankful to know families are satisfied with her work. Patricia says she hates leaving her own children during special moments because she always get called in on her days-off. She says it affects her a lot but it is necessary to be prepared to work long hours when you enter this type of work. She says “I have to dedicate myself and work long hours. Sometimes I don't have time to rest or to spend with the family and that affects me emotionally†She works 12 (???) hours weekly, If there is an emergency they call her at home to pick up extra hours. She applies the knowledge she learned in school to her work. She learned how to deal with people according to their situation. Patricia says It is necessary to have many skills in many areas. "The Social Security Administration did not confirm that you are a U.S. citizen. You must provide your school with documentation of your citizenship status before you can receive federal student aid." I don't know why. I am a US citizen, although I was born in Poland and became a citizen when I was 9. Could this be the case? What am I or my parents supposed to do now?

I bet you checked the wrong box in the citizenship question on the FAFSA. You should have checked "U.S. Citizen". Check your FAFSA results (the SAR).
2 :
That may be way. It is a simple fix. The school will need you to fax in your social security card and another ID, your license is best. This could put a hold up on your financial aid, so to save yourself and your school a hassle, fax that information into your financial aid adviser as soon as possible and they will continue processing your aid.

Do you think that I'm clever enough?
Do you think that I'm clever enough?
I'm 14 and I've lived in London for 4 years. I haven't been taught English in Poland at all before I moved here. I'm pretty fluent and normally when i meet new people they don't realize I'm Polish until I tell them. I'm a level 6 in English, 7 in maths and 6 in science (I'm in year 9). Is this good? I was the top student in my class in Poland as far as i remember. I also go to Polish school on saturdays and I'm the top student there. My parents think that I got a chance of getting into really good universities (which I do want to go to) but sometimes I think that when I don't get into one of them my parents are going to be really upset. My mum also always tells people how good and clever I am and I hate it because i think that I might fail which is not a good feeling. So I just want to know what other people think of this. Please can you give me an answer and any advise or if i actually have a good chance of getting into a good university. thanks :) Just To Add that the levels I got were at the end of year 8. Just do your best, none of it really matters as much as you think it does. If you fail then its ok, try again. Live your life for yourself, not for anyone else.
2 :
i think your average or just above, i know level 5s are average, so yeah. i also dont think you can say about university judging only by sats, as sats are not even looked at at universities
3 :
you must know that your parents are pushing you because they care about you but they will not hate you if you fail. they only want the best and see great things in your future. as long as you try your best, it should be good enough for your parents. they would love you just as much if you were as dumb as a box of rocks. don't worry too much about it. you should be just clever enough.
4 :
You sound smart enough to me. Just remember that a good university isn't everything. People's lives take unexpected dips and turns...All that matters is that you are happy and living a productive life.

Do I need to reg. on Workers Registration Schem, Polish, work legally in UK since 2000,start new job in Mar 05
It is an immigration question, so are there any immigration experts out there, or maybe sb has done it before? - applied for Resident Permit? Just to claryfy: I work legally in the UK since 2000, paying taxes, with insurance nbr etc... Poland has joined EU in May 04 before that I was in student visa, working 20hrs a week and studying at the same time , 2 years at the Restaurant, and 2 years for the Chartered Accountants Office, In March 2005 I got a new job at the University, working full time. Now, Do I need to register on the Workers registration Scheme? As far as I know I worked legally for more than 12 months (6years), so I think that I dont need to do it yet I am a bit confused when reading guidelines for completing Resident Permit form EEA1 (downloaded it from the Home Office web) I says there that if you worked in the UK legally for 12 mnonths, you dont need to register I the next paragraph however, it states , that if you started a new job after May 2004 you need to reg??

help :) i need a italian translation?
Hello :) How are you? i have not seen you in a year! I would like to write to you about the exchange student. My family and I have hosted 7 exchange students over the past 5 years. We are currently hosting a two week French student. Our other students were from Japan, France, Poland, Vietnam, Brazil, and Greece. I've had a lot of experience. A family can benefit in so many ways when they host. From our experiences, we now have an extended family that is all over the world, who speak 6 different languages. We have had many exchange students so we travel a lot now. My mother went to Europe for the first time this summer when we visited our French exchange student from 4 years ago and our Polish exchange student from 3 years ago. Having exchange students has taught me to be accepting, patient, caring and has allowed me to be more confident with people from all around the world. My love for culture and meeting new and different people has developed over the past 5 years because of exchange students and I am now working towards becoming‘English as a Second Language Teacher’, so that I can travel the world and teach English. Hosting a foreign exchange student can be a rewarding experience that creates friendships that last a lifetime. As a foreign language teacher, I can attest to the tremendous impact contact with other cultures has on my own students, sometimes a life changing impact. REAL HUMAN TRANSLATOR!!! ONLINE DONT WORK!! PLEASE. :) *****This last sentence is a bit unclear: i mean i have a lot of experience hosting students :)

Ciao :) Come stai? È un anno che non ci vediamo! Vorrei scriverti qualcosa sugli studenti in scambio. Ho molta esperienza. [This last sentence is a bit unclear: you mean you have a lot of experience hosting students? Or that you've had great experiences with the students you've hosted in the past?]

I don't know to what degree you have access to library databases for the academic articles you might need, but I'm sure you could find plenty that way. I was just telling my sister how much she fit that description. Our father just died at 84, and she was flying back and forth from her home on weekends, helping me to care for him and our 83-year old mother, while still trying to take care of her five-year old and thirteen-year old sons. Largely happening because people are having their children later in life (she had her second son at 46), more people, especially women, are stuck between caregiving for their parents and their children.

Firstly, there is no way you can be admitted into a U.S. school without taking tests, secondly if you wish to enter medical school here in the United States then you need a bachelor's degree to do so because medical school is a post-graduate program. If you have a bachelor's degree then you will need to take the MCAT which is the standard Medical College Admission Test which all applicants must take, also be aware that medical schools also have other prerequisites including passing grades in advance math and science subjects. Finally you will not find medical education for under $20K per year, you are looking at a minimum of $30K-$35K per year and this does not include living expenses.

How should I deal with this?
How should I deal with this?
I work at a copyshop in Poland and there are the group of foreign students visiting us almost every day.Since they cannot speak Polish we talk mainly in English which I enjoy greatly even if they use only the American language. But some of them don`t like my British pronuciation and keep correcting it whenever I say something .How do I politely let them know they are completely wrong about it?

just say it and they will take it.
2 :
By putting 2 paper bags over your head.
3 :
yay! im polish too, except i live in america. anyways, your best bet is to tell them you know english from britain
4 :
Tell that your from the UK, not the USA where they would be correct.
5 :
Wow, is this your question? Just tell them not to correct you.
6 :
i would just ignore them or be straight forward.
7 :
you should just approch them and tell them thats the way u talk and to stop or if u wnt a laugh u could tell them in a funny way which will give every1 a good laugh and the message
8 :
well just tell them not to be disrespecful, that they wouldnt want anybody make fun of them . they being in a foreing country of em. Or just insult em in polish lol and laugh
9 :
I would explain to them that every language has different dialects, and this is how you say it in yours.
10 :
no you dont politely do anything.its rude for them to be acting this way
11 :
How ethnocentric of them, they sound like the "ugly american" type of people that give us USAers a bad name! I would inform them that you learned the Queen's English (the original form of english) from English people, you are in Europe after all, and obviously England is a lot closer. Who cares if you're rude?
12 :
Are you absolutely sure everything you pronounce is correct? If yes, Say something like 'Hey, you guys, thanks for all your help. But, please remember*, I am thinking of working in England and so I need to speak as they do.' *This doesn't have to be true.
13 :
The orgin of English is from Europe. If some one doesn't like your British pronunciation ask them to visit their university library and refer some history books. Dont change uer pronunciation for anyone. Oh and I live in US.
14 :
this people (polish) dont know politely. (trust me) Just do the best that you can , and that it is it.
15 :
Simply say that there is no "correct" method of pronunciation, that one is therefore not better than another, and this is simply how you have learnt to speak English. If they don't like your reasoning, then simply refuse to speak English at all, and only speak Polish, and then see how much they complain about your accent :-)
16 :
Are these students trying to learn Polish? If so, they might be "helping" you with your English in the hope that you might offer to help them with their Polish. It's an approach that lots of foreign students use. These students probably do not realize that you are *intentionally* pronouncing English words in a way that's different from what they're used to. How would they know unless you told them? If the average person who hasn't lived in the UK is listening to the average Polish person speak English, "American English Spoken With a Polish Accent" sounds a whole lot like "UK English Spoken With a Polish Accent". Trust me. Just smile and say to the students, "You know, I study British English, not American English. Have any of you lived in England? I don't want my English to sound half-British, half-American!" They'll understand :)

I have Ivy League questions... please help?
I have Ivy League questions... please help?
I'm a student from Eastern Europe (Poland) which now belongs to the European Union, which gives us more prospectives. I attend an IB school, I just finished my freshman year and I plan to go to one of the Ivy League universities, if I get in. 1) My academic results have been great so far. I finished with a 6.1 average, out of possible 7.0. I did very good on my final exams, scoring 5/6 and 6/6 on all of them except one, where I had 4/6. I got an award for outstanding achievement in art, math and humanities. I participated in photography club, drawing skills and sets and props club. In the coming years, I'm planning to do even better academically and do even more after school to widen my interests (drawing, painting, writing, learning about medicine, windsurfing, community and service). Do I have chances of getting in based on this? I know it's not the entire thing, but if I continue this way until I'm a senior, would I? 2) I know that I would have to take the SATs apart from my IB exams. How long does the preparation take? Are they hard? I heard you need at least 2100 overall points to enter any Ivy League university. Would I be able to get that with an IB education? 3) I know that Harvard grants you a full scholarship if your family income is less than $60,000 a year. What about other universities? 4) I work quite hard to achieve my results and I have everlasting stocks of enthusiasm and I will work until I achieve what I want. I know that I can work even harder than that to achieve a good score in the SATs. Are those values important to Ivy League? I heard they are. 5) I associate my future with med school, but if I get into an Ivy League uni, I would do something concerning business or economics, maybe human resources or even internal design. I might continue with medicine, I don't know yet. 6) Except for good academic results, a lot of extra-curricular activities, good SAT scores, personal essays and recommendation, what else is there that Ivy League universities appreciate? THANK YOU! :)

i cant answer your question, but i just wanna let you know that Ivy League is an athletic conference. A group of northern schools playing football together. You should look at some other schools than just Ivy. Open your mind.
2 :
1. Getting into a super selective college is more than just grades -- are you also involved in community service? Do you have leadership roles? Will you have strong letters of recommendation? How about your personal statement/essay -- and what about the college interview! There are a lot of factors that go into college admissions. While any college likes to see a student involved and with an award or two -- it's not the only thing they will look for. 2. A big part of the SAT Test is just knowing what to expect! That is why test prep pros recommend that the test is taken twice -- because knowing what to expect can actually give your score a slight boost the second time around. There are many free online practice tests for the SAT -- take them! It will help you know what you need to work on and what you have a handle on. 3. There are many colleges and universities with no-loans, free tuition, or full rides for low-income students, besides Harvard -- see link below. 4. Just letting a college know how bad you want "in" can help you -- see link below. Connect on Twitter or Facebook -- don't be a pest about it, but let admissions put a personality to a name. 5. Many students do choose an "undecided" major for a reason -- it gives them a chance to branch out a bit and to sample a variety of subjects to see where they fit in. Nothing says you have to decide tomorrow on what you want to study. It's okay to figure it out as you go. 6. I guess I covered this one already but here it is again: letters of recommendation, SAT/ACT scores, leadership roles, community service, GPA, class rank, awards, extracurricular activities (think quality though, not quantity!), college interview...to name a few! Also -- it's not just about rank. Make sure you that you can take the time out to visit a few colleges and universities -- the best ranked college in the world won't do you much good if you absolutely hate the atmosphere and are completely miserable. Take the campus tour, talk to students about what they do for fun, sit in on a class if you can, if you like swimming, what's the condition of the pool, do they have a swim team? -- and make sure to try the food. Four years is a long time. Making the campus visit can let you know if the schools you have narrowed down will be the right fit for you -- and your interests.

Was I right to snap at her?
Was I right to snap at her?
Today, after class, I was waiting for the dismissal bell to ring and my teacher told me to lend my notes to another student. Well this student, Jake is from Poland and he speaks with a Polish accent. He's picked on a LOT, but I never pick on him. Jake has this crush, Eve and he is obsessed. He says he loves her, but he doesn't really know her. Eve is really preppy, spoiled, and I really don't like her attitude. She screams and yells "No!" whenever Jake talks about her around her. Jake was copying my notes and this guy, Nick came and ruffled his hair. Jake told him to stop. Eve came up and did it just to pick on him. Jake didn't know it was Eve and he yelled at her and told her to go away. Eve went in the corner and pretended to cry-just for the attention. Jake kept telling her sorry, but she kept doing it. So I finally snapped at her and said, "Come on Eve. You overreact about Jake. Once in a while, you just have to stop!" She gave me a dirty look. Was I right to snap at her?

Polish is a language with a very complex grammar. You could probably learn enough vocabulary in a year to get by. The pronunciation is also very difficult. It can take decades of intense study to be able pass as a native, and at least 2 or 3 years of intense study to become fluent.
2 :
It will be relatively easy to learn how to read Polish, because spelling is phonetic (if you see a word, you can read it in only one way) - I would start with this. However, like in English, when you hear a word, you can often write it in several ways, eg. /mozhe/ can be spelled "może" or "morze" with two separate meanings. About vocabulary - basic vocab is not so easy, but lots of more advanced words are borrowings from Latin, Greek or English - so it gets easier with time. Grammar - nightmare (for English speakers). Lots of inflections, seven cases of nouns :) Pronunciation - forget it! It's impossible to pass for a native speaker if you weren't born in Poland (well, almost. I've never met such a person myself, but I saw a few on TV who could pass for a native with a small speech impairment). LOL. But if you just want to make yourself understood, it's not so difficult. Generally - Polish is relatively easy if you want to get by and don't worry too much about grammatical correctness and pronunciation. A year in the country is enough to get by.

I'm applying by mail, and it doesn't make it clear on the embassy website where I should address the application requirements to. I"m assuming it's the Polish embassy near Santa Monica, CA, but just wanted to make sure. And also, what are their acceptable forms of payment for the visa fee? Is cash okay? Thank you in advance. @ David: "In case of applying by mail, please provide prepaid envelope (Fedex or UPS only) or check (money order or cashier's check) for amount of 16 USD." "1) Is it possible to apply for a visa by mail? Yes. We suggest that you use courier service (FEDEX, UPS etc.) and enclose a prepaid self-addressed return envelope." Thanks though.
