I want to be a foreign exchange student?
I want to be a foreign exchange student?
Okay, so yesterday, our school was hosting the Rotary International Festival for our county. There were about 43 students from all around the world. There were countries like, France, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Haiti, Czech Republic, Poland, Mexico, India, Australia... and a couple more. There was a guy who told me that, for people to wanted to be exchange students, there were about 18 different countries you could choose from. I'm interested in going to Scotland, Italy, France, or Great Britain... I know that Italy is available, but I really want to go to Scotland. I forgot to ask the guy what countries were actually available. Does anyone know if Scotland is available to visit for my region? I live in Tompkins County in central New York (it's where Cornell University is) P.S.- I am 13, and I can do this program when I become a sophomore or a junior. I know the pricing, I know nothing free. It's a little expensive. But I asked my parents, and they really encourage me to do this.

Maybe you should be asking, how much does it cost? Nothing is free?

I was looking for a kid to host. Im 15, and im Italian.( in Bari, the southern part of Italy ) I would so much like to take part of an exchange program :) If you would like to know more, lemme know, add me up on fb on my public profile Amministratrice Twilighters ( then im going to give ya my email, if you want to ^^ ) <3

Hello! I am currently a Rotary International Exchange Student! I'm 16, and I'm American. 1st of all, Rotary is the cheapest option you will be able to find. Hopefully you'll be wanting to do a full-year exchange, as I am, because a lot of districts don't even offer half year exchanges. And in my personal opinion, half-year exchanges are totally NOT worth it. if that's you're only option, you'd be better to just stay home. 2nd, it's good you're getting started this early. I was 15 when i decided to go on exchange, and applied not even knowing if this was what i really should do. but even if you're just considering it, APPLY! 3rd, you will probably not get your 1st country. I don't know anyone that got their 1st country. I got my 4th, Denmark. My good friend is in Italy, her second choice, and she is one of the very few Americans living in Italy (it's a very sought after country, very few RYE students get it!) I don't know any Americans living in other english-speaking countries, and I know A LOT of exchange students. If you'd really like to go to just ONE country, you should look into another program, because nothing is written in stone with Rotary. I didn't even know who was picking me up in the airport when i flew out! You just have to kind of learn to trust them, because they're the best international program ever! 4th, go to a non-english speaking country! don't limit yourself. learning Danish has been such an adventure, and if you choose a Northern European country, then a lot of people will speak english anyways. i may be biased, but i think that you should choose DENMARK! best country in the world. love it here, never want to go home. 5th, Danish Rotary offers a Europe Tour for 3 weeks in May. i'll be going to France, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, and The Netherlands, for a very decent price! 6th, i would recommend being a RYE student your Junior year. Sophomore is too early, most countries won't even let you come if you're under 16. There are some very flexible countries, like Turkey, Denmark, and Brazil (brazil will take anybody!), but most have very strict rules about who comes into their country, some even require you to have learned their language (France, you must have 2 years of French, same with Belgium. You must have 2 years of German to go to Germany) okay, i've written a lot. but i love exchange students. and if you're parents are even being that supportive, DO IT! you'll never regret it. don't count on Scotland or GB being available- you will probably not go there. France or Italy are more likely, but i would really recommend taking a chance, going to a country that you know nothing about. That's even more impressive than doing something safe and well-known. And even if the USA is accepting students from those countries, they probably aren't sending any kids out to those countries. so just keep an open-mind when choosing countries. if you ever hear from that Danish exchange student again, tell them that I live on Bornholm, and that i love their country :D

Technically they can accept anybody they want who can qualify for a visa. Realistically, you don't have a chance. There has not been a new medical school built in the USA in the past 45 years and the existing legitimate schools are intensely competitive. How is your Spanish? There are some very good medical schools in Mexico and South America..

Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland...is it safe?
Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland...is it safe?
Next summer I'll be going to Italy, Greece, & maybe Turkey. The summer after that I'll be going to Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria. (Both with my school) And I'm just wondering, is it safe for me since I'm biracial/black? I'll be 16 when I go to Italy & Greece, and 17 when I go to Germany. I don't want to be so far from home and be experiencing any type of prejudice or racism. I'm sure Italy and Greece are okay, but my family and I are worried about Germany & Poland. (There was a Polish exchange student last year & she was openly racist. She was sent home early because of it.) So, before I sign up and drop $7000 - would it be okay & safe? Thanks to anyone who helps. =)

$7,000 is a lot of money, if you are afraid that you might get a bad experience. If u go with your school u r probably safe but how u experience these countries (prejudices etc.) is hard to predict but u shouldn't generalize based on one polish girl. Germans are normally quite friendly, because the country is quite multicultural nowadays, but Poland might be different
2 :
Don't listen to the person above me, Poland is entirely safe for minorities. Trust me! There are many exchange students in universities and a lot of traveling groups from Africa! You will love Poland. They are one of the most Catholic Countries in the World who got to church every Sunday. And in the 14th or 15th Century they allowed the Minority Jews into their country( Poland was the only country who allowed this). They are a very open natured people who love when people come visit their country no matter what their skin color! So Poland is deffinately an okay! ~~~To Viva La Vida: All I am doing is stating facts. And I know the Poles did not act correctly in WW2 with their Jews but you be in that position as the Poles were in and see how nice you act! and I know that going to church has nothing to do with it or being the most Catholic country, I was stating facts and you can't change facts! And what are you talking about I have no knowledge of history?! Did I say anything that is NOT correct? And there is no misinformation here.
3 :
why not add philippines you are more safe,,, theres more beautiful beaches and friendly people
4 :
i wish people would stop saying that about my beautiful country Germany. im white and my cousin is black, he grew up in Germany (Frankfurt i believe) and he mainly had probs with turks. just stay out of eastern Germany, west is the least racist and more open to blacks, they have alot of American military bases with blacks so you shouldn't get any problems.
5 :
In Italy, Germany, Austria you will be safe. In Poland and Czech Republic you will be even more safer, probably you will make many friends there. In Greece you won't be safe at all! Just look what happened to Australian tourists in Greece these summer, American Embassy bombed in Athens, look about terrorist organization EPEK (Е.П.Е.К.) on Crete, DENYING MINORITIES in Greece, racism and homophobia in Greece, army on the border with Macedonia (and buying a lot of weapon esc. from France), racism and insults to black football players... I recommend you not to go in Greece, before the become stable again. Edit: It is true that I'm from Greece neighbour small country. It is called Macedonia (USA have recognize by our name Republic of Macedonia), but it is not true that I hate greece and greeks. Easily you will find out how greeks are calling (insulting) my country name and our people., so why to expect that it will be different with you???
6 :
Don't worry, you will not face any problem in these countries. People, there, are very nice and warm (especially in Italy and Greece). As for a user who said all these bad things about Greece.... please don't take him seriously. He (and his compatriots) are from a neighboring to Greece small country and hate Greek people. So you will always hear them to say lies and insulting things about Greece. Have a nice time! You made great choices.. these countries are very beautiful and interesting. Of course you should always be careful....even in paradise ! : ) Have fun !
7 :
You will definitely be ok, don't worry, just try to keep an open mind and take in as much as possible from all the places you're visiting. Racism, at least the open form, is not a problem in Europe. There are deeper prejudices running into the system&social mechanisms, like employment and housing, but not open threats that you're concerned with. Please don't pay attention to malicious people whose only way to make themselves great is by belittling another nation. Apart from them, there are also those who have no idea of history, like Chloe here who's singing odes to Poland in the past, when she should know better than that. The fact that "They are one of the most Catholic Countries in the World who got to church every Sunday" means absolutely nothing. It doesn't make them better believers, or better people for that matter. And the claim that "in the 14th or 15th Century they allowed the Minority Jews into their country( Poland was the only country who allowed this)" is more sad than anything else, having in mind how they treated their Jews in WW2. Even the Poles not directly responsible still feel the shame for the cruelty they exercised over Jews. I don't want to say that the Polish are racist, only to correct the misinformation displayed here.
8 :
okay let me tell you this...my husband is Polish, I am 100% black and i'll be going to Poland in Oct. I've done allot of research on this topic, and your best bet is to contact the US state department travel section. They have tons of info (factual info) on every country in the world, and they will be able to give you safety info on the countries that you will be visiting. I did my research on Poland, and i'm am beyond excited to go....even if i'll be the only black American for miles.
9 :
Yeah, I've been there. I have family members in Greece so..yeah. People will look at you weird, and touch your skin, but in most areas, they have seen black people. In Germany, it all matters where you go, like here. They see alot of black students from africa so...its no biggie. They like american blacks the most
10 :
According to the crime rates per country,Greece is the most safe country in Europe. Germany has high crime rate and chez republic and Italy are following.Poland is a little bit lower Turkey is very safe as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_homicide_rate.... Safety has nothing to do with racism.you might feel discriminated in every of these....

IB Entry requirements for Medicine Universities in Hungary & Poland?
IB Entry requirements for Medicine Universities in Hungary & Poland?
Hi! I'm currently studying the IB Programme and looking at universities to determine that I've made the right choices by choosing the subjects that I have. I really want to become a doctor so I've chosen subject such as Chemistry and Biology HL and Maths SL. Primarily I'd like to study in England but since the grades required to enter English universities seem quite high I've been considering perhaps studying medicine in Hungary and Poland, where I've been told that they aren't as high. The counsellor at my school gave me a site with English universities and their entry requirements and I've been trying to find the IB requirements for universities with medicine education in Hungary and Poland but I can't find any :( If anyone has any suggestions on where I can find these requirements (for IB students!), please help! Thanks very much! :) Best wishes, Sophie

In the United States, there are no "IB requirements" for college. You dont have to take certain IB classes to get into a certain college...IB gives you an IB diploma, just like a normal high school diploma only its international. You get credit for taking IB courses depending on the college and how well your IB exam scores are. Each college has its IB policy listed somewhere online (when I say that I mean getting credit for classes once admitted to the university, not IB classes that are required to be accepted into a university.) If you cant find it, call the university.

The visit was part of a pilot program that promotes the power of observation in making diagnoses. "I had heard of programs at other medical schools that used art interaction to aid in patient interaction," said Joe O'Donnell, the senior advising dean at Dartmouth Medical School and a member of the DMS class of 1971. "I thought that we could duplicate that program here, and put our Dartmouth stamp on it." He connected with Stephen Plume, an artist and a DMS professor of surgery, and they reached out to the Hood's Director, Brian Kennedy. Soon they began working with Vivian Ladd and Lesley Wellman, both in the education department at the museum, to develop a program that would cultivate the simple, yet often nuanced, ability to notice things, whether it be in a painting or in a patient. During the month of May, they implemented two pilot workshops at the museum that sparked some thoughtful comments from participants. One student said, "I learned to be mindful when I am making assumptions, interpretations, or just observations. I also learned how different my perspective may be depending on my external knowledge or ignorance of a particular work of art." Wellman welcomed the opportunity to reach out to a community of students who might not otherwise walk across town to visit the Hood. "This is a creative program to help the participants look and think critically, and also communicate effectively," said Wellman. "Once they've carefully looked over a painting, the students have to report back to the group about what they saw. After a painting has been thoroughly described, the students discussed an interpretation, or diagnosis, of what it is about. It was a revealing exercise." "What a wonderful group," Ladd said after working with the DMS students. "There is no way they are going to go on to become cold and distant doctors." DMS and the Hood will work to refine this program and offer it again to incoming students this fall. O'Donnell hopes it will soon become a permanent offering.

apply for it.
2 :
You only have a green card you have to follow the same rules that apply to your status the INS is making it hard for people to get a visa
3 :
Apply for it visa work... By the way if you are only a Legal Resident of US. It will be a very long process for him to get legal status if he marry to you. If you where a US citizen then is easy and fast process...
4 :
He can't automatically stay if you get married in the US, however, the way to apply for a visa after marriage is set out at uscis.gov
5 :
If he is currently on a student visa classification (which he should be, since you indicate he is studying!), he CANNOT work in the US with his existing visa. If you are a resident alien, there's no benefit to having him marry you; it only makes a difference if the spouse is a CITIZEN (which means the spouse was born in the US or was born outside the US to parents who were BOTH American citizens at the time). It is highly likely that he will have to leave the country (perhaps for as long as two years, depnding on his course of study), and re-apply for a work visa. To obtain the work visa (as a professional, not a day worker), there's a LOT of things that have to happen first. Basically, he has to be sponsored into the country by an American firm that has already proven to the government's satisfaction that there are no Americans who have the qualities or capabilities of holding the advertised position and that the candidate HAS those same qualifications. If you are currently a Resident Alien, you have some limitation on your own visa status. Be sure you don't overstay your own visa!

Students in Poland take 30 classes!? Wow.. Well I take eight classes, but I'm moving up to eleven next year. SENIOR YEAR!? ARGHHH
11 :
Im from Ireland too, and i take 9 classes including P.E. but im in 5th year. I usto take 12 or something for junior cert. Btw, take LCVP for your leaving cert if you can, extra points for a little bit of work :)
12 :
Where I live in the US we take 1-8, depending on what credits you need. Right now I'm taking 2 soon to be 1. I took extra credits before so I can graduate early.
13 :
six? i take eight!!
14 :
I take 8 classes, I live in the UK and am in year 10.
15 :
I'm taking 6 classes, but next year it'll be 7 (starting high school). Man, 30 classes?...That's crazy.
16 :
eleven. (P.E., P.S.E, and R.E are compulsory) English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, History, French, Art, Philosophy,
17 :
I live in in america and we have 8 classes a day for all 12 years. Maybe 30 classes is how many they take to graduate high school like credit hours. In america we have to have 24 classes or credit hours.
18 :
I live in Scotland :) I'm in third year at secondary school + do 8 subjects, English, Maths, French + 5 of my own choice (: - Chemistry, modern studies, history, drama + computing. I also do compulsory P.E, PSE (personal social education) + R.E (religious education) For my first 2 years, I did 14. After summer 2011 when I go into 5th year, I'll do 5 :]
19 :
I take 6 at a time. But at the semester, half the year, one of my classes changed but still only 6.
20 :
Y school is semestered so I have 4 at a time(2 semesters a year). Some of the schools in my area have terms so they have 8 classes a day and all their exams at the same time.
21 :
eight (: I live in Canada.
22 :
I live in the U.S and most high schools range from 6 - 7 (1 hour each) classes a day.
23 :
6. i live in the US.

It doesn't cost a penny to use Yahoo Chat. Be sure to mail him a card or letter periodically. We guys are suckers for nice letters. Just be sure that it IS a nice letter and not one in which you moan and groan over and over how much you miss him. Of course you will miss each other but keep the letter light and romantic and don't fall into writing how empty and dismal your life is without him. Depending on how close you two are, you may want to set a goal of raising enough to fly to Poland to visit him and have him show you his wonderful country. You might tell your parents that is what you would like for a graduation present.
7 :
umm... yeah! Long distance relationships don't work! I have experience in this field... my boyfriend of ten years moved to Antartica.
8 :
Well as for the international charges you can buy an international calling card at Walmart for 10 dollars... just in case you do end up staying in touch. Besides you can always email, text, im, get on web cam or even write letters. Just see where it goes you never know... you might not even make it til June.

How long is Christmas-break in Poland?
How long is Christmas-break in Poland?
Do Polish schools still have Christmas break? Because before Christmas, my German-class were pen-palls with some Polish students, but they haven't responded since mid-december, not even the teacher writes back... So I was thinking, if they consider this pen-pall thing purely a school-thing, that would explain why they wouldn't respond while being on break..

christmas break was from 23.12 to 02.01. now 2 weeks of winter break are coming up;) in poland each region has this break in the different time, so it depends on the city your friends live in, for example I live on the west side and my break starts on 29.01.

What is life in Poland like?
What is life in Poland like?
For high school student exchange I might want to go there. What kinds of things would I do? How is life in Poland different than American life? Would I make any friends there?
Poland - 12 Answers

Poland is one of the poorest countries in Europe.
2 :
Poland. A really fun and great place and a lot of hard work. You first have to learn Polish. Some things you might want to do at home is plant some seeds. It's a great farming area. If you lived in the city, you may want to look around and shop. If you live in the city, you can't do anything at home. There are some people that will give you horse rides around the beach and into the forest, returning you to home.
3 :
My parents are Polish immigrants and I've been there several times so take my advice: Life in Poland is a lot like it is in America. People my age had the same interests and had the same things, the only thing I'd say are movies and music come later, but I'm sure you would handle that just fine Also, it depends where the family you would be staying with is, if they're in the city don't expect it to be much different, on the farm however you may have to get used to it. Also, the cars are a lot smaller, and most people only use public transportation anyway, you would definitely make friends just like you would here. : )
4 :
poland is a great place to go it is fun and there r alot of things to do there if u go u will have fun
5 :
Great , Polish people , chatlotic place , much better then American children.
6 :
Polish teens will be very friendly to you. They all have some knowledge of English so communication won't be a problem. Your experience in Poland will differ depending on the place you live. However, in general you will have a lot of fun. Polish teens are A LOT more independent than American teens because of the public transportation system. They do stuff as people do here, but they also go to theater, concerts, museums and art galleries. That's what I did when I was in High School in Wroclaw. I agree that movie premiers are later in Poland, but music - Poland has music from all over the World. Americans know music mostly from America, but in Poland you will listen to different music. I always buy CD's when I go there. In Poland you will be surrounded by great architecture and culture. There is a good chance that you will make friends for life when you go there. You will experience night life, something teens in America can't really do due to the drinking age difference. For how long would you go there? Do you know where you would stay? If you don't already, then learn some basic Polish, the rest will come while you're there. Good luck and have fun. Poland is great!
7 :
Generally people in Poland are well educated and education is on high level compared to western europe and america (Poland has even more academic graduates than more populous and richer Germany). Standards of life are almost identical to those of US and western Europe, but finding a good job and earning good money is a lot harder here. Economy is still expanding and still has a bright future (Poland is one of the less affected by the crisis country in Europe). All in all it's really fun to live here and it doesn't looks like some ignorant stereotypical idiots tend to say.
8 :
Life in Poland is not much different than in the States; Poland may be smaller and have fewer good roads but from the point of view of your location that is not much of a difference. And of course, you will make friends - first at the school you will go to.
9 :
education is much higher than in the US. although ppl complain too much unlike the ppl in the US! they don't smile as often as Americans do!! kids in Poland don't go to schools/colleges by cars and very few have their own car(difference again). although the life and the culture of plish is rich and this is what you should look forward to!!
10 :
From the end :) - Yes, for sure you will find friends here, cause we are friendly more than you can see in the streets. You will find life in Poland cheaper in many cases -e.g. eating outside. Living may vary, because we (I mean younger people) spend more time in clubs and just out in the city. From my family (LA, CA) I know American students do not go outside because of crime problems - in comparison Poland is much more safer. You must now, that Poland has specific climate and get to know more about it - probably (as a student) you will be here in winter, and winter in PL - that IS SOMETHING. Temperature may be surprisingly low, and life still goes on :) As you can read above people of Poland are warm, kind and honest to they relatives and friends. Do not reject invitations, especially home invitations - you will get chance to know better our culture what can be described best way in polish proverb "Guest in the house, as God in the house". Enjoy our country and be welcome :) One more thing - we have got the most beautiful girls in the world, about boys I can't say, sorry... :)
11 :
i hear there is alot of unemployment but im not sure about that. kids do more work there than kids in america(helping around the house and working outside alot). i dont know what else to tell you. its a really nice place and i think you should go there. and the roads, some of the roads are reallyyyyyyyyyy small
12 :
Great idea. I was there for a student exchange also and it was just great. The people are very nice and many of the young ones speak English. You can rely on public transportation to go anywhere and it's quite safe to be out late in the evening because there's a lot of people around at that time. There are plenty of museums and churches where you can learn about the culture and lots of pubs and discos where you can have fun.

Looking for a part time job in Dublin during summer?
Is it hard to find a job in Dublin if you go there without anything organized before? I am a student from Poland and I couldn't find any offerts for a summer, I am interested in (nearly ;) any kind of job, f.g. cleaning, hotel works etc. off course I don't have a lot of experience. Maybe you could suggest me a website or any exact place in Dublin (hotel?) to look for?

hey bud, u have tough work ahead! now with all new loads of inmigrants coming to the republic theres loads of people available for those low-profile jobs ur searching for. even if u go around giving out cvs in pubs it will be quite hard to find anything- ireland is not the jobs-heaven anymore... so, once u know its not gonna be so easy, i can tell u to go and visit a few places, like irishjobs.ie jobs.ie recruitireland.ie graftonrecruitment.ie jobfinder.ie monster.ie and c what u can find there. other option is saving some money previously nd head for a smaller city than dublin - check limerick, galway, corck as medium sized cities, or athlone, waterford, wexford, sligo, for smaller sized cities (not villages, ah, though i think that would be the best option). bring with u a big bunch of cvs nd leave them everywhere looking nd talking ur best. sure sth will come out! good luck anyway
2 :
theres a pub in dublin called the findlater, it would be great during summer because it brings in alot of customers during the summer especially gaa match days. Dont think you need much english, just to understand orders and that. check out for any jobs available http://www.irishjobs.ie/
3 :
sorry no we need our jobs ourselves

Ask ten people and you will get 10 different countries...... Do the research yourself and choose one or two that are close.... If you are a college student that shouldn't be too hard. Cheap is relative...it's how much you want to do and spend.
2 :
add to those countries you chose ,Egypt, Saudi, Dubi , Turkey, China it is really good thing to visit other countries and see the differences between you and others good luck in your travels ...
3 :
i highly recommend traveling to europe, even though south america is definitely cheaper. it's an easier cultural adjustment and virtually everyone speaks english. i loved germany, munich is one of my favorite cities. you should check out efcollegebreak.com they have ridiculously cheap summer tours for college students--and they travel basically all around the world. the tours are also great because it's so many destinations on one tour so you don't necessarily have to pick just one country. you can also use my EF College Break Campus Manager Code, TRILI9452 and get an extra $50 off any trip...it's pretty sweet.

3 :
It really depends to which part of poland ur going, there is racism but it really depends where u going. In poland pretty much every1 is christian so if ur not christian ppl might be a little racist, Im polish btw and about dating meh idk how to answer that question it really depends on the girls and ur look/character lol
4 :
I'm from Poland and will be going there in a week so I hope I can help you. First of all, Poland is HUGELY white and like 98% Catholic, or close to that, but there has been a lot of travel of Arabs to Europe. Germany has a largely rising Arab population, and the Polish Western area close to it's border resembles Germany in many ways so, I'd think that would be the more tolerant area. Since you are going to study there, I assume you will be in one of the more urban areas like Warsaw or Krakow, which are more to the East, but don't worry about racism. If you like to dress in a traditional fashion, people might stare, but people will most likely be just curiosity driven, not hate driven. If you dress in stuff like t-shirts and jeans you will blend right in. About the dating thing, nothing is stopping you from doing it, but don't expect to find a lot of blondes in Poland that would work out for you. Polish families are like I said very Catholic, so you would have to find a tolerant one. Just to warn you, if my Polish family is generic of all Polish families, you might want to know that we tend to get a bit jealous of each others success. I hope your studies work out, and that I helped in any way, I haven't been there in a couple of years, so this is the best I can tell you based on my knowledge.
5 :
I do not think there will be much problem with staying and studying in Poland - there have been many foreign students from Asia and Africa in Poland. As for dating a blonde Polish girl - it really depends on the girl.
6 :
racism is anywhere, but right, quite a huge one in poland! especially towards arabs, black people, people of different religions etc. so be prepared for that! lots of polish girls(desperate ones) would love to date arabs, and lots of them (as above...) would marry them and realize after a while what they did.
7 :
is there a racist - Yes Poland is racist be aware of that. Is Poland safe for Arab students - Poland isn't dangerous safe for you. Can I date a blonde Polish girl for marriage - Most likely not there is no law to say no but Polish girls like white polish clean guys. I want information, please - Poland is a Catholic place , located in Europe. May not be the Best Place for you personally. Since your not Catholic that will be a big problem and because of your race. But it's not that big of a deal its alright.
8 :
hey im a polish blond girl haha ;P lol

How do you get rid of nightmares?
How do you get rid of nightmares?
I have been having continual night-mares for about a month. They usually revolve around death or something trying to hurt me. Last night I had a dream about the holocaust and that I was at Auschwitz. I am 22 years old and live in AZ, and have never been to Poland ever. I am student teaching currently and under much stress with the economy and thinking about looking for a job. Also, I have been using a steroid nasal spray for allergies the past few weeks. What could be causing these nightmares and how do I make it stop???
Psychology - 11 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Probably has to do with stress.
2 :
well its your fear. i imagine happy things before i sleep. and dont worry the economy will get better
3 :
Freud says that dreams are just reflections of events in your life, twisted into seemingly random experiences when you sleep. Try to connect the dream to a problem you have in your waking life, and solve the problem. You being at Auschwitz could signify the poisonous gasses the Nazis used there. And you're using a nasal spray. Coincidence? You are also a student teacher, surrounded by people all day, like someone at Auschwitz might be surrounded by prisoners.
4 :
think positive, usually when i have a lotta negative thoughts i get nightmares. I'm not a very positive person so i at least try to empty my mind
5 :
it depends on your surroundings usually, if there is anthing uncomfortable, move away from it. And try not to stress out so much, and think about happy stuff
6 :
stress can assist in nightmares, as well as eating before bed, watching tv late at night, and a lack of adequate amount of sleep.
7 :
Maybe you saw something about WW2 and concentration camps that got into your mind and so you see it in your nightmares. Also, the stress is affecting you. And I would look up on side effects on that nasal spray, and stop using it if necessary if I were you.
8 :
look at the other side of the hill all question will be answered after u reached it. Don't worry everything will be okay and for the nightmares just keep on repeating ur name and say where u live eventually u will get rid of them.
9 :
I'm no therapist, so unfortunately I can't determine the cause of your nightmares. But to make a guess, I'd say your high stress level has something to do with it. Often times, nightmares result from seeing something frightening, such as a scary movie or witnessing a murder, etc. Also, something is probably really bothering you, most likely a problem you have yet to solve. Sometimes nightmares are a portrayal of your fears, and to get rid of them you must overcome them. But like I said, I'm no professional, these are just what I think and have read before :P Depending on what you believe in, you might want to buy/make an indian dreamcatcher. Some claim that they really work, while others say they do not work. I have used one in the past when I was younger, and I barely ever had nightmares. But I didn't have nightmares on a regular basis to start with so I don't really know how effective it was. But what do you have to lose? It's worth a try :P If you convince yourself that it will work, it very well just might. The human mind is a powerful thing and usually once it is convinced of something, it happens. Anyway, these are my thoughts. Goodluck, and hope i helped! :)
10 :
dreams are caused by messages in your unconscious mind (according to freud) so maybe these nightmares are reflections or stress during the day and other harmful thoughts my advice is to evaluate your situation and well, chill :) hope this helps
11 :
go to sleep and dont resist cuz o nightmares and read b4 bed, and in ur dream think with ALL ur soul that nuthin bad is gunna happen, and if u know ur in a dream, think with all ur soul to wake up. u really havta believe it tho no thoughts intha back of ur mind! u could also try looking at the ground and spinning in ur dream, it changes the scene. But last time i did that there was a bunch of pics in front of my eyes flashing real fast slideshow style. it was sooo scary. hugs n kisses <3, me

no...
3 :
Maybe because in Poland teenagers are learning how to speak English in the British style not the american style so you may never know if they don't speak polish.
4 :
Most of the younger Polish citizens start learning English in school. You might want to brush up on your Polish.
5 :
I would say it's a 50/50 chance.
6 :
Yes. Most of teenagers speak English.
7 :
well i lived there nd they learn well i mean da teachers try 2 teach their students english, though they kno basics, like if u ask them somethin they would b able 2 answer in english, so my answer is YES<well most likely>
8 :
i think you might be able to communicate. i live in Poland at the moment. Almost everyone is learning English, but you will find out that Poles don't like making mistakes and so most of the time they feel quite shy if they have to speak a language that they are not used to. But definitely you won't feel like there is no communication at all. try learning their language as well in the few days that you are there, they will appreciate it.
9 :
Hi! A lot of teenagers speak English. They make of course mistakes like me :-) But don't worry, we love foreigners :-) Welcome to Poland!!
10 :
I used to be an English teacher in Poland - and yes, you'll be able to communicate with them well, especially in the bigger cities. Young kids in Poland are very eager in learning new languages and practicing their skills.

Absolutely. I did the same thing last summer. All eight of the kids I was traveling with had some English, and two of them had phenomanal English.

You will be able to communicate but if there is a problem with being understood, you simply have to repeat your question or statement more slowly and clearly.

Everyone is most likely taught english begining from 1st grade, so yes, depends.. most likely you will be able to.

Learn Polish!!

Nearly all jobs that require a college education would require a knowledge of English. Colleges in Wroclaw, Warsaw and Krakow would be best for a student such as yourself.
3 :
You could be a native speaker teacher in some college of English in Poland.
4 :
If you know Polish you cold be a good translator or private tutor Work as a Native speaker in double language schools or kindergartens. Work as a secretary in U.S or British company. Work for newly formed consulate, or even in a Travel Agency. Schools -Forget about public universities After graduate from Polish University you will know only book knowledge (B.A or M.A is rather a bad idea) exception from this rule depends on what major course you choose. For example -bad decision is to study on public university such specializations like - psychology, sociology, history etc (if you are still desperate to study philosophy choose Jagiellonian University - not only books but also personalities). Good - IT (for example on Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska)- one of best IT schools in the world (see rankings)), Economy (SGH - Warsaw School of Economy) or Foreign relations , diplomacy etc. especially relations with east (former U.S.S.R countries). Oriental languages (Linguistics) Also there are some good public Artistic schools (best are located in Lódź) - Åódź Academy of Fine Arts http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akademia_Sztuk_PiÄ™knych_im._WÅ‚adysÅ‚awa_StrzemiÅ„skiego_w_Åodzi -National Film School in Åódź http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Film_School_in_Åódź ranking of private schools http://www.perspektywy.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3820&Itemid=836 - See Vistula University they have special education programs for foreigners.

How do you respond to people constantly asking you your height when you're tall? ?
How do you respond to people constantly asking you your height when you're tall? ?
Okay so my aunties exchange student from Poland is 6 foot 5, an people Constantly ask her what her height is. She usually answers "Tall." an then they bug her with "No, really!! What is it!" she an my aunty were talkin' about ways to respond because it's really getting tiring for her.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered - 24 Answers

1 :
tell her to answer in metric!
2 :
Say something that doesn't sound right, like 5 feet 17 inches.
3 :
Be proud! I wish I was tall! I'm only 5.10 which isn't very tall at all!
4 :
Give it to them in metric form. They won't have any idea how to convert it and hopefully will shut up.
5 :
I share this pain! I am tall and I can't tell you how many people ask if I play basketball - constantly! Now my response is "I HATE BASKETBALL!" God, just because I am tall does not mean I play sports! And it's always stupid ignorant men who ask. Have her just tell them "I don't own a measuring tape."
6 :
I'm 6'5" and I just say I'm 6'5" but I'm a guy. On women it may be different.
7 :
I was working at macdonalds when I was 17, and this SUPER tall guy came in, he was a friend of my co workers. I was like omg "how tall are you?" He flipped his bottom lip down like a pout and 6'7 was tattooed there. I don't think it hurts, and you can do it really fast. I thought it was super cooL!
8 :
Just give them what they want. Tell them the answer and they will probably not have thought up another answer. Maybe you could say "Tall enough to kick your ass" or "Tall enough to see your dandruff: etc.......
9 :
U can be honest and tell them to go away, or just measure her and tell them that. Hope it helpssss!!!!! :D
10 :
give 'em a math problem! No one likes math! They won't want to know anymore! Make the problem = 57812 for the heck of it
11 :
"Taller than you." That might shut them up. :) Or just the truth. But they won't always let it be at that. Or say a very short height. Again, this might not always work. Or you can just give them this link. It says her height right up there. :)
12 :
Oh, man, I'm sorry. I'm not tall, but my little (ha!) brother's 6' 7". He's been asked if he plays basketball so many times by now... You could always suggest Miss Manners' advice for anyone being asked annoying personal questions: just say "why do you want to know?" or "why would you ask me that?" At the very least, she can get away while they're trying to figure out what to say back.
13 :
My tall friend replies, "5 foot 16 inches."
14 :
Well, I would screw with their minds. Like, hard to describe, so here is what a chat would look like: Person #1: How tall are you? Exchange Student: 6"4 Person #2: How tall are you? Exchange Student: 6"5. Person #3: How tall are you? Exchange Student: 6"6 Person #4: How tall are you? Exchange Student: 6"7 Person #5: How tall are you? Exchange Student: 6"8 Person #6: How tall are you? Exchange Student: 6"9 Person #1: How tall are you again? Exchange Student: 5"11 Like that >:)
15 :
im 6'ft 2 and ppl ask me why im a girl and why im so tall it pisses me off but i igonore them . so just ignore and walk the other way
16 :
I always answer in inches. 76" here!
17 :
I guess that WOULD get annoying after a while, but, personally, it doesn't bother me. I'm 5' 7/8", which, apparently is pretty damn tall in this town compared to all the other girls. Whenever I go to friends houses, their mothers always ask me how tall I am and compare the height to mine. My friends, family, and people I meet also do that. It doesn't happen all that often so maybe that's why I'm not annoyed by it. Personally, it makes me feels kind of special that there's something that sticks out about me. Plus, I like being tall! I can tower over some guys in my classes to appear more opposing (though I'm not very opposing to being with lol) and I tower over almost all girls.
18 :
She can go with the more powerful approach and say" Taller than you'll ever be!" Or she could tell a large group of people that she is 6 foot 5 inches. Naturally, they will be amazed by her and tell everyone. She wouldn't have to tell anyone else then.
19 :
tell them to say, "taller than you." :)
20 :
She should ask them what their weight is in return, or how many times a day they masturbate, or something equally personal and antagonizing...
21 :
Yeah. Metric with confuse them or just shut them up. :) I get that a lot, too.
22 :
im tall. ppl always ask my height and if i play basketball. the height is ok. but the basketball question is annoying. someone else on here said they had the same problem, i completely understand. and yes, it is mostly small-minded guys that ask the basketball question. as to how i answer, im usually just polite and tell the the truth. they arent really hurting me by asking a question so i just answer and move on. although i did like someone's response of "5 feet 17 inches."
23 :
ugh..i get it a lot ..im 6'3 and still growing ....i just say tall, taller than you
24 :
I was going to say just what Red said, 5 foot 17

That depends on your school system. In my high school, I didn't have to repeat the grade but I did need to have the necessary classes to graduate (Senior English, etc.) so that when I came back, I would be able to pick up my diploma. I doubt you would really have to retake the entire year. Make an appointment with your schools advisors to find out. Good luck!

But you realize we do not do abortions in Poland? You should go privately if you need an English speaking doctor. Or why not go to a medical center on campus - they have to help you. How can I get a schengen when I'm currently in Poland with my polish visa about to expire?
How can I get a schengen when I'm currently in Poland with my polish visa about to expire?
I'm currently a 4th year medical student in Poland and I have a 1-year polish non-schengen visa ending on January 3rd 2008. I will complete my studies and get my degree on March 15th 2008. But I must leave the country on January 3rd. And since the Schengen has expanded I can't just go to Germany and get the free '90 day tourism' stamp. What are my options? Can I go to the UK and come right back? Do I need to go to the US and wait 180 days? I have not traveled to Germany in over 8 months so i'm not sure the 180 day rule applies to me. Maybe I should just keep a low profile for 2 more and take my chances. Also, i am an american citizen. I appreciate any insight.

Apply for a Schengen visa in any embassy of any country in Poland since your Polish visa is about to expire.

what are you saying? if your studies are not finished and you will graduate march 15th 2008? you should see your school counselor for an extention? it should be allowed, this makes no sense? so? did you know that Poland joined the schengen zone, SCHENGEN ZONE Poland Joins the Schengen Area On 21 December 2007 passport checks were abolished on Poland’s border to Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania by a decision of the European Parliament – all this on account of an extension of the Schengen area to admit nine new states, including Poland. The Schengen area is a zone which comprises the territories of individual EU Member States where specific rules of the Schengen Agreement apply with regard to border security, citizens’ personal data protection, reciprocal cooperation between the signatories’ law enforcement services, issue of visas to foreign nationals, as well as participation in the so-called Schengen Information System (a common electronic database of persons and property) etc. Close cooperation of the services responsible for citizens’ security in a broad sense leads to improvement of the general public security level, including crime combating and prevention. http://www.poland.gov.pl/Poland,in,Schengen,zone,1620.html at the latest it will be january 1st 2008 Poland is scheduled to join the Schengen zone on Jan. 1, 2008. Thirteen EU countries plus Iceland and Norway participate in the scheme, and Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Czech Republic and Poland will enter the system soon. http://english.people.com.cn/90001/90777/6254893.html are your studies paid in full ?do you know any of the country touching poland? in the schengen zone, Germany is the one closet and you do not need a visa a an US citizen,in any other country in the schengen zone Status of membership and implementation As of 21 December 2007, 24 states and Monaco had abolished border controls on persons among themselves, an increase from 15 on 20 December 2007. The nine new countries which entered the Schengen travel area are: The Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.Cyprus, which entered the European Union at the same time as the above states, will delay joining the Schengen zone by one year. Two latest EU entrants, namely Romania and Bulgaria, are enhancing respective security systems to qualify for joining the Schengen territory. The existing 15 countries have been: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. Of these, two countries, Norway and Iceland, are not EU members. now, after all of this, do come back and explain your case better, if you are a student, they will certainly not trow you out right at graduation,or near it, i have never heard of such thing?

You need to apply to an exchange organization. http://www.yfu.org/ - Youth For Understanding http://www.ayusa.org/ - AYUSA http://www.rotary.org/ - Rotary International http://www.aifs.org/ I had an exchange student from AYUSA, and briefly worked for them (interviewing exchange students to do kind of a status check). Frankly, they are a bit disorganized, but they have a lot more opportunities in Asia. Our exchange student met and befriended exchange students who came using different programs. I must say, I have the most respect for Youth For Understanding. Rotary can be good, but I think (I don't know, I think) that they give preference to kids who's parents are in Rotary. I really don't know much about AIFS. Sometimes, you can get a discount if your parents take a foreign exchange student.

Your school surely has the information you need. Talk to the guidance office or one of the Foreign Language teachers. Here's a site to check into, in case your school does not already have something set up. http://www.csiet.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=66167&orgId=cosfiet These are the top programs in the country.

First, to attend school in US, you need to get admitted at school. Then the school will mail you I-20 SEVIS Form, so that you can apply F1 Student Visa. You need to prove that you have enough fund or school tuition and living expanses, since you cannot work on F1. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1268.html To immigrant, you need a sponsor who has to first file Petition for you. A sponsor is US Citizen or US Permanent Resident who is your immediate family member or US Employer. Once it is approved, you can apply for immigrant visa ouside of US or Adjustment of Status inside US. It could take years until you get green card. http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1326.html http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=ae853ad15c673210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=ae853ad15c673210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

Sweden would be nice because it's a very progressive country, and has a system that works very well. There are a lot of lessons that America could learn from Sweden. It also has an interesting history and culture.
2 :
New Zealand.
3 :
Russia: It is very difficult for the average traveller to gain access to Russia. Though they are starting to ease up on who they let in, non student visas to Russia can be difficult and costly to obtain. However student visas are pretty easy to get, and it would be an easy in to a country you may never get to see again (at least not easily) additionally russia is a beautiful country with a rich history and very interesting, crazy, vodka consuming people. Russia would be great. Poland would be great because eastern europe kicks ass, New Zealand would be great because of it's friendly people and warm climate, Sweden would be great because swedes are smokin hot!!!! But yeah choose russia, studying there is a once in a lifetime!

Sweden! I'm in Sweden right now as an exchange student with AFS, and i could not have chosen a better country. I have been here for almost 6 months, and everything about Sweden is just amazing. First off, it's beautiful, I've traveled a little around Sweden (I live in Stockholm) and every place I have been has been completely breath taking. The food part- honestly is pretty okay, it might not be the best food you will ever eat, but it depends on your family, that goes for whatever country you choose though. The language, is a challenge, you'll have to learn the ä,ö, and å. But after a couple of months it will be no problem. Swedes can seem really shy at first, but once you get to know a Swede, you form an amazing bond. I could go on forever about why you should choose Sweden and how amazing it is. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Choose whatever country you think will make you happy. I personally think an american going to New Zealand is not a "challenging exchange". New Zealand is pretty similar to the US, and you wouldn't get the benefit of learning a new language. Keep that in mind.

You have to apply to the Polish embassy. Any visum you get is automatically a Schengen visum. It depends on what you want the visum for. If it's for study you must apply to the country you go to. If it's for vacation, it's enough to legally enter one Schengen country and travel to Poland.

In Hungary, most people speak English. There are a lot of American expatriates there, so if you really need to find someone like you, you'll be able to. A lot of tourists go to Vacy Utca in Budapest, so you'll probably be able to find people there if you're really lonely. Of course, your exchange program should also provide a way for you to meet other exchange students.

In Poland majority of young people speak English. Older people (like around 40 years old) had learnt Russian instead of English in schools so you might have some problems when talking to them. As for social life it depends on the city.

In Hungary, many people speak English, you can perfectly live here without knowing Hungarian. Budapest is a quite touristic city so you will find english speakers everywhere. Restaurants usually have menus in English, there are cinemas that show movies in original language......etc . Some universities offer programs in English, so you will find lots of foreigner students. I talk about Budapest because I live here, and I am not Hungarian, but i can not tell you anything about Poland. Good luck!! Hope you choose Hungary, this is a great country!!!
