You only have a green card you have to follow the same rules that apply to your status the INS is making it hard for people to get a visa

Apply for it visa work... By the way if you are only a Legal Resident of US. It will be a very long process for him to get legal status if he marry to you. If you where a US citizen then is easy and fast process...

He can't automatically stay if you get married in the US, however, the way to apply for a visa after marriage is set out at uscis.gov

If he is currently on a student visa classification (which he should be, since you indicate he is studying!), he CANNOT work in the US with his existing visa. If you are a resident alien, there's no benefit to having him marry you; it only makes a difference if the spouse is a CITIZEN (which means the spouse was born in the US or was born outside the US to parents who were BOTH American citizens at the time). It is highly likely that he will have to leave the country (perhaps for as long as two years, depnding on his course of study), and re-apply for a work visa. To obtain the work visa (as a professional, not a day worker), there's a LOT of things that have to happen first. Basically, he has to be sponsored into the country by an American firm that has already proven to the government's satisfaction that there are no Americans who have the qualities or capabilities of holding the advertised position and that the candidate HAS those same qualifications. If you are currently a Resident Alien, you have some limitation on your own visa status. Be sure you don't overstay your own visa!
