Do you think that I'm clever enough?

Do you think that I'm clever enough?
I'm 14 and I've lived in London for 4 years. I haven't been taught English in Poland at all before I moved here. I'm pretty fluent and normally when i meet new people they don't realize I'm Polish until I tell them. I'm a level 6 in English, 7 in maths and 6 in science (I'm in year 9). Is this good? I was the top student in my class in Poland as far as i remember. I also go to Polish school on saturdays and I'm the top student there. My parents think that I got a chance of getting into really good universities (which I do want to go to) but sometimes I think that when I don't get into one of them my parents are going to be really upset. My mum also always tells people how good and clever I am and I hate it because i think that I might fail which is not a good feeling. So I just want to know what other people think of this. Please can you give me an answer and any advise or if i actually have a good chance of getting into a good university. thanks :) Just To Add that the levels I got were at the end of year 8. Just do your best, none of it really matters as much as you think it does. If you fail then its ok, try again. Live your life for yourself, not for anyone else.

i think your average or just above, i know level 5s are average, so yeah. i also dont think you can say about university judging only by sats, as sats are not even looked at at universities

you must know that your parents are pushing you because they care about you but they will not hate you if you fail. they only want the best and see great things in your future. as long as you try your best, it should be good enough for your parents. they would love you just as much if you were as dumb as a box of rocks. don't worry too much about it. you should be just clever enough.

You sound smart enough to me. Just remember that a good university isn't everything. People's lives take unexpected dips and turns...All that matters is that you are happy and living a productive life.

Do I need to reg. on Workers Registration Schem, Polish,work legally in UK since 2000,start new job in Mar 05
It is an immigration question, so are there any immigration experts out there, or maybe sb has done it before? - applied for Resident Permit? Just to claryfy: I work legally in the UK since 2000, paying taxes, with insurance nbr etc... Poland has joined EU in May 04 before that I was in student visa, working 20hrs a week and studying at the same time , 2 years at the Restaurant, and 2 years for the Chartered Accountants Office, In March 2005 I got a new job at the University, working full time. Now, Do I need to register on the Workers registration Scheme? As far as I know I worked legally for more than 12 months (6years), so I think that I dont need to do it yet I am a bit confused when reading guidelines for completing Resident Permit form EEA1 (downloaded it from the Home Office web) I says there that if you worked in the UK legally for 12 mnonths, you dont need to register I the next paragraph however, it states , that if you started a new job after May 2004 you need to reg??

Native Speaker looking for activities for mixed levels of English.?

Native Speaker looking for activities for mixed levels of English.?
I'm from America, I am in Poland working at an English school. The boss put me with variety of levels into one class. So today I have pre-intermediate and intermediate levels of students in one class. And another with beginner and pre-intermediate. ETC... It's hard to find games and topics that are suitable for everyone. Anyone have any ideas?Thanks:)

Hello :) How are you? i have not seen you in a year! I would like to write to you about the exchange student. My family and I have hosted 7 exchange students over the past 5 years. We are currently hosting a two week French student. Our other students were from Japan, France, Poland, Vietnam, Brazil, and Greece. I've had a lot of experience. A family can benefit in so many ways when they host. From our experiences, we now have an extended family that is all over the world, who speak 6 different languages. We have had many exchange students so we travel a lot now. My mother went to Europe for the first time this summer when we visited our French exchange student from 4 years ago and our Polish exchange student from 3 years ago. Having exchange students has taught me to be accepting, patient, caring and has allowed me to be more confident with people from all around the world. My love for culture and meeting new and different people has developed over the past 5 years because of exchange students and I am now working towards becomingâ€˜English as a Second Language Teacherâ€™, so that I can travel the world and teach English. Hosting a foreign exchange student can be a rewarding experience that creates friendships that last a lifetime. As a foreign language teacher, I can attest to the tremendous impact contact with other cultures has on my own students, sometimes a life changing impact. REAL HUMAN TRANSLATOR!!! ONLINE DONT WORK!! I don't know to what degree you have access to library databases for the academic articles you might need, but I'm sure you could find plenty that way. I was just telling my sister how much she fit that description. Our father just died at 84, and she was flying back and forth from her home on weekends, helping me to care for him and our 83-year old mother, while still trying to take care of her five-year old and thirteen-year old sons. Largely happening because people are having their children later in life (she had her second son at 46), more people, especially women, are stuck between caregiving for their parents and their children.

I want to study in the USA!!!?

I want to study in the USA!!!?
I am a first year student in the medical school in Poland...and I would like to continue my education in the USA....which universities would accept me easily? I mean without an interview, taking a test... PS: I cant pay more than 20 000 dollars/year

Firstly, there is no way you can be admitted into a U.S. school without taking tests, secondly if you wish to enter medical school here in the United States then you need a bachelor's degree to do so because medical school is a post-graduate program. If you have a bachelor's degree then you will need to take the MCAT which is the standard Medical College Admission Test which all applicants must take, also be aware that medical schools also have other prerequisites including passing grades in advance math and science subjects. Finally you will not find medical education for under $20K per year, you are looking at a minimum of $30K-$35K per year and this does not include living expenses.

How should I deal with this?
I work at a copyshop in Poland and there are the group of foreign students visiting us almost every day.Since they cannot speak Polish we talk mainly in English which I enjoy greatly even if they use only the American language.But some of them don`t like my British pronuciation and keep correcting it whenever I say something .How do I politely let them know they are completely wrong about it?

How ethnocentric of them, they sound like the "ugly american" type of people that give us USAers a bad name! I would inform them that you learned the Queen's English (the original form of english) from English people, you are in Europe after all, and obviously England is a lot closer. Are you absolutely sure everything you pronounce is correct? If yes, Say something like 'Hey, you guys, thanks for all your help. But, please remember*, I am thinking of working in England and so I need to speak as they do.' *This doesn't have to be true.

The orgin of English is from Europe. If some one doesn't like your British pronunciation ask them to visit their university library and refer some history books. Dont change uer pronunciation for anyone. Oh and I live in US.

this people (polish) dont know politely. (trust me) Just do the best that you can , and that it is it.

Simply say that there is no "correct" method of pronunciation, that one is therefore not better than another, and this is simply how you have learnt to speak English. If they don't like your reasoning, then simply refuse to speak English at all, and only speak Polish, and then see how much they complain about your accent :-)

Are these students trying to learn Polish? If so, they might be "helping" you with your English in the hope that you might offer to help them with their Polish. It's an approach that lots of foreign students use. These students probably do not realize that you are *intentionally* pronouncing English words in a way that's different from what they're used to. How would they know unless you told them? If the average person who hasn't lived in the UK is listening to the average Polish person speak English, "American English Spoken With a Polish Accent" sounds a whole lot like "UK English Spoken With a Polish Accent". Trust me. Just smile and say to the students, "You know, I study British English, not American English. Have any of you lived in England? I don't want my English to sound half-British, half-American!" They'll understand :)
