I need information on wheelchair travel to Poland including to Auschwitz?
A college student who uses a wheelchair wants to go with an educational group on a trip to Poland including to Auschwitz. He will need accessible transportation, hotels and access to sites. All I have been able to find is an accessible hotel in Warsaw. I have accessed many sites on travel for persons with disabilities.

You should research hotels in Krakow, about 30-45 min away from Auschwitz. Krakow is the biggest tourist trap in Poland, try http://www.krakow.pl/en/. Have a great trip!!!

However, don't count for much - Poland isn't a wheelchair-friendly enviroment, and althouh people are likely to go to great lenghts to help a disabled person (povided you ask them to), there are still a lot of architectonical barriers. The Oswiecim (where Auschwitz Museum is located) is accessible either by train, or by bus. Long-range buses in Poland are definitely not wheelchair-friendly, neither your typical cruise buses are. Trains - the short-range suburban trains have wide access doors, the regular carriages have more conventional, narrow doors. However, if the station's platform is a low one (a common sight outside of main cities), it's completely impossible for a person on wheelchair to get out of a train on his/her own. Even with a high platform, I don't think it would be easy, if possible at all. Still, you're going as a group, so I suppose there would be possible to get other group members to help the person on the wheelchair. Also, as for the train, you can ask for train personnel's help. When I was wisiting Oswiecim by train, the station had a low platform. However, this was over 10 years ago. As for the Museum at Auschwitz, most places will be not accessible for a wheelchair. The original barracks of the concentation camp had no wheelchair ramps when I was there 4 years ago, and i doubt whether it would change. After all, the Museum is going to great lenghts to keep everything as close to the original impression as they can, and originally there were no ramps.

Hi, I am from Greece, now I am in Warsow (student) and I am going to visit a Polish home. I haven't done this before. What's the etiquette? What gift should I bring? If the invitation is on 8 going there at 8.30 is a good time? (It's common in Greece!) Should I offer to remove my shoes?

The shoes are a touchy subject. In my part of Poland it is expected of guests to remove their shoes. In other areas it is regarded as offensive to a guest. Poles often argue about the shoe thing. To be safe, if the host is not wearing his/her shoes, take off yours as well. If you are visiting other students, a bottle of wine (or vodka) is a good gift. If you are visiting somebody older, bring some flowers (for a woman) or a bottle of wine (for a man) If the invitation is for 8 pm, you should show up at 8 pm

nemeczek is right. You can always ask if you have to remove your shoes: some Polish people find it rude to be asked to remove their shoes, but some think it's normal. Best time to appear is at 8 till 8:15. But not before 8. You can bring a wine, vodka, flowers or some chocolates. Or generally something to eat, like a Greek speciality, I think they'll find it nice. If you have a invitation about 8;00 pm you should show up at this time.When you knock the door and somebody open is nice to say 'Good evening (MRS or Mr.) Also is nice bring some flowers for the lady at the house and some wine for the men.Most of the shoes you should remove them by the entry-it's nice -it's show yours manor.

A good time to arrive is 8-8:15 it is rude to be more late! If the person you visit has no shoes on take yours off but you don't have to unless they explicitly ask. A good annd common present is a good wine or vodka or nalewka =, maybe some chocolates or flowers have a nice time

Ok well first of all never call then "you" only refer to them as Mr and Mrs. Never say cześć pronounced, "cheshch" if talking to an older person instead use the term "dzien dobry" it's much more polite. polish people always say you don't have to take your shoes off however it's best to take them off. I think that's a good time polish people stay up late (most depends on age). you can bring something. (optional) and that's about it be sure to use please and thank yous (like me most polish people talk a lot and use hand gestures)

Which is the best place to study MEDICINE among Hungary, Romanian or Poland?
My name is mads. I’m a student from Denmark who wants to study medicine. I want to become doctor because it is my dream and my passion. I will do my best to achieve my dream. I just want to know how hard or easy is it to get accepted in Hungary, which countries do the students that study there come from? Is the Entrance exam difficult?

I was wondering, what you need to do to get there provided you are an international student (Poland precisely). I heard you need to have either CPE (B mark) or CAE (A mark) or some others, but I think I would rather focus on these ones (they are permanent, the fact which would come in handy during job applications in future). As far as the exams goes, I heard you need to have like 90% of 'Matura' (Polish exam of maturity), but what else ? You need some unusual qualifications ? I've been wondering also about the fees - if you would do great during the 'Matura' or whatsoever would you still need to pay ? I am not really that much well-informed about the UK schools, so I don't know anything notwithstanding I would like to go there. So here is the abridged version of what I wrote - questions: 1. What do you need to apply for Oxford ? 2. What are the fees, and when you don't need to pay them ? 3. Concerning the fees, what are they approximately ? 4. Are there any alternatives, and what would the prices be ? I don't have that much money, but going to such 'elite' university would be great. 5. What is the price of the accommodation in the dorms? I heard there was some strike concerning the students' fees. Thanks in advance !

You can apply for loan from governament and pay back after you graduate and have a job.

I have a friend in Poland who was one of my exchange student friends last year and my goal is to try go visit her this coming summer. But I need some tips. A)How would I tell my parents that I would want to go visit her B)How much money do you think I would need to save up C) When do you think is the best time to go? Thanks:)

a) you should try bringing it up early, not like a month before you want to go. slowly talk them into the idea. when they see you aren't going to give up they might be willing to think about it. b) if you find a cheap plane ticket it could be around $750-800 roundtrip. but you really have to search. plus maybe $500 spending money? depends on how long you want to stay. c) i would say the best time to go is summer. summers in poland are very beautiful- and not overwhelmingly hot. try visiting gdynia/gdansk north by the baltic sea. it's simply amazing! have fun & good luck! st dominicks jarmark starts every year between last week of july and first 2 weeks of august in Gdansk...and its close to sopot 2 really incridble places to visit

I would like to add, the best time to go is in the spring when every thing is blooming, the day is long, the weather is great and if you go b-4 mid May, the tickets are the lease expensive. The $ converstion is about $1 to 3 Zloty and the prices are cheap when you have dollars or Euro. I am from Wroclaw, it is in south west Poland, with rich history and modern culture. It is a big city with a lot to see. Poland is just beautiful where ever you'll go.

Try Xfares. they give discounts for college students ages 18-22.

The airlines don't offer discounts for individual students anymore. Even when they did, the discounts were a percentage off a full-fare ticket and the cost was still more than an 'excursion fare" ticket. Check with your school to see if they know of a tour program (maybe offered by a nearby college) that you can join to get a group-rate discount on your ticket. There is no secret, magic website with the "cheapest" airfares. You have to do the research, and be as flexible as possible regarding travel dates. Check the travel sites (airgorilla, expedia, priceline, travelocity, etc.) and also check the airline websites. I have often (not always, but often) found the best fares on the airline websites. Remember to check airlines like JetBlue and Southwest that do not use the travel sites. In Europe, examples of discoun airlines are EasyJet and RyanAir. Check with a real travel agent to ask about promotional fares and special deals. If you also need a hotel or rental car, check the cost of combining the purchases in a package. For example, I found a deal with airfare + hotel in Hawaii for a week that was only $100 more than just the airfare. When traveling to far destinations check the prices when you split the ticket. For example, searching "Denver to Warsaw" (all on one ticket) MAY cost much more than searching "Denver to London" and then "London to Warsaw" on a discount airline. If that turns out to be the case, talk to a real travel agent about getting the better fare all on one ticket. Good luck!

Depends upon the season and from where, east coast (NYC) is about 400 USD cheaper than west coast (SF and LA). In summer (July-August) expect to pay at least 1200 USD per person or more from New York. With 55 people going I would ring up the airlines and a bunch of specialised travel agencies, you should be able to get a discount with that many people.

It matters, non-stop with LOT probably around $1500-$2000. With Lufthansa and a stop in Munich probably around $1000 or so. Also when you buy from an agent in such great amount you might also get a discount.
