Was I right to snap at her?

Was I right to snap at her?
Today, after class, I was waiting for the dismissal bell to ring and my teacher told me to lend my notes to another student. Well this student, Jake is from Poland and he speaks with a Polish accent. He's picked on a LOT, but I never pick on him. Jake has this crush, Eve and he is obsessed. He says he loves her, but he doesn't really know her. Eve is really preppy, spoiled, and I really don't like her attitude. She screams and yells "No!" whenever Jake talks about her around her. Jake was copying my notes and this guy, Nick came and ruffled his hair. Jake told him to stop. Eve came up and did it just to pick on him. Jake didn't know it was Eve and he yelled at her and told her to go away. Eve went in the corner and pretended to cry-just for the attention. Jake kept telling her sorry, but she kept doing it. So I finally snapped at her and said, "Come on Eve. You overreact about Jake. Once in a while, you just have to stop!" She gave me a dirty look. Was I right to snap at her?

Minimal time to learn Polish?

Minimal time to learn Polish?

Polish is a language with a very complex grammar. You could probably learn enough vocabulary in a year to get by. The pronunciation is also very difficult. It can take decades of intense study to be able pass as a native, and at least 2 or 3 years of intense study to become fluent.
2 :
It will be relatively easy to learn how to read Polish, because spelling is phonetic (if you see a word, you can read it in only one way) - I would start with this. However, like in English, when you hear a word, you can often write it in several ways, eg. /mozhe/ can be spelled "może" or "morze" with two separate meanings. About vocabulary - basic vocab is not so easy, but lots of more advanced words are borrowings from Latin, Greek or English - so it gets easier with time. Grammar - nightmare (for English speakers). Lots of inflections, seven cases of nouns :) Pronunciation - forget it! It's impossible to pass for a native speaker if you weren't born in Poland (well, almost. I've never met such a person myself, but I saw a few on TV who could pass for a native with a small speech impairment). LOL. But if you just want to make yourself understood, it's not so difficult. Generally - Polish is relatively easy if you want to get by and don't worry too much about grammatical correctness and pronunciation. A year in the country is enough to get by.

University of Arizona - economics and students?

University of Arizona - economics and students?
I am a high school junior from Poland and I intend to apply to several US universities. I would like to obtain some feedback on how good is UA's economics program and what could you tell me about people, who attend this school. Are there some hardworking people, who can actually engage themselves intelectually or is it a typical party school?

U of A is a pretty prestigious school, known alot for his astronomy/science program, but still very good... the party school you are thinking of is Arizona State.
2 :
It is a good school that is known for its contagiously enthusiastic student population. Log on to the link below to find out more. http://www.unigo.com/university_of_arizona/ There you would find details like guidelines for getting in, fee structure, reviews about the school by the students, campus life, contact info and many others. Questions about applying for a Polish visa, Los Angeles, CA?

Questions about applying for a Polish visa, Los Angeles, CA?
I'm applying for a student visa for Poland and I intend to stay for 6 months. Just a few questions. I'm applying by mail, and it doesn't make it clear on the embassy website where I should address the application requirements to. I"m assuming it's the Polish embassy near Santa Monica, CA, but just wanted to make sure. And also, what are their acceptable forms of payment for the visa fee? Is cash okay? Thank you in advance. @ David: "In case of applying by mail, please provide prepaid envelope (Fedex or UPS only) or check (money order or cashier's check) for amount of 16 USD." "1) Is it possible to apply for a visa by mail? Yes. We suggest that you use courier service (FEDEX, UPS etc.) and enclose a prepaid self-addressed return envelope." Thanks though.
