Are European student cards accepted in UK for discounts?
I have a friend who will be coming from Poland and I'm wondering if their student card would be accepted for such places as London Dungeon or other attractions which have student discounts.

I've been to England few years ago, spent some time there, they accepted my INTERNATIONAL STUDENT IDENTITY CARD (ISIC), EURO<26 - which contains insurance and is quite cheap,. I suppose they should accept normal Polish student cart as well - just be confident!

some places do - its worth a try

How can I get a multiple schengen visa? I'm a student in UK and non EU/UK resident?
I have visas for Sweden (student visa for 6-month), Spain and Poland. Where I should apply for schengen visa in UK? Is it possible to get visa for 3 months? Thanks!

The UK is not party to the Schengen agreement. If you want to apply for a Schengen visa, you should do so at the Embassy of the country which is your main destination, even if it is not the country you are entering first Your question is a little confusing as you are issued with a Schengen visa alongside a work or student visa in a Schengen country. Are you perhaps exaggerating? Schengen visas are valid for six months and allow you a maximum stay of 90 days within the Schegen countries. You must have at least three months validity remaining on your student visa on the date of your return from holiday to be able to apply for a Schengen visa from the UK.

If you're going for school I think you get a student visa. That's what I did when I went to India. You have to ask the person running the program cause I don't know how it's done in Kuwait.

They accept American Visa..

Well if you are going to stay longer in Poland you have to apply for Polish visa. There is nothing like "European union visa", Poland is the member of Schengen treaty, which means that once you have a visa to one of EU countries, you can travel freely to other countries as well. But if you're flying directly to Poland, I guess you need Polish visa. Regarding the Embassy - there is Polish embassy (or consulate, I'm not sure) in Kuwait!!! I found the following info: Embassy / High Comission / Consulate for Kuwait Office : Embassy Street Address : Area No 8, Street No. 20, House No. 377 Postal Address : PO Box 5066 ZIP Code : 13501 City : Safat State : Safat Country : Kuwait Telephone : (+965) 5311571, 5311572 Faximile : (+965) 5311576, 5311578 Email : polamba@qualitynet.net Website : www.polambakuw.gov.kw

Hi, i'm applying for medical student exchange program in poland and i dont know where to go ?
i have a list of cities to choose from : BiaÅ‚ystok, Bydgoszcz GdaÅ„sk , Kraków , Lublin , Åódź , PoznaÅ„, Szczecin ,ÅšlÄ…sk - Katowice, Warszawa, WrocÅ‚aw. which is the best city to go to durning july .. keep in mind i'm a muslim arab student and i'll be living there alone for a whole month. so which one shall i choose? i want a quiet city with friendly people, maybe arab if possible .. also id rather live near forests or mountains since ive always wanted to go camping and stuff .. city life is too borjng for me

Then choose Krakow:) the people here a very friendly, lots of people speak english, and its very close to Zakopane, which would be a perfect place for you to go camping as it has mountains and many forests. Theres plenty to do and see in the city, but if you find city life boring you can always easily get out of the city for awhile as the who region of Malopolska (where the city of Krakow is located) is very beautiful, and well known for its forests and mountains.
2 :
I would have to agree with Nightfang as it ticks all the boxes you ;have mentioned, however I do know for example that in Lublin where my wife's cousin trained as a Doctor there were many Arab students training there.
3 :
I'd choose Gdańsk, Kraków or Wrocław. As for Arabs, there are many in Warsaw, but if you don't like city life, there's not much to do there. Gdańsk and Wrocław are much more quiet and cozy (but still big cities), with many cultural activities, monuments and many students. And pleasant surroundings too, great places to camp - but no mountains. So, Kraków may be the best place. Nightfang listed the reasons - I would add Jura Krakowsko-Częstochowska, the region just north of Kraków, abundant in hills, rivers, caves, and castles or ruins of them. There's even a desert!

here is the map of Poland w/the cities u are offered to go to: http://www.wordtravels.com/images/map/Poland_map.jpg so look at it and then u will have the general idea of where u wud be send to, keep in mind that we have mountains in the southern area n since u dont like the city life u may want to go to either WrocÅ‚aw or Kraków cos these cities are close to the mountains (Kraków is closer to bigger mountains) both cities are close to the boarders w/Czech Rep n Slovakia so u can be tempted to go there as well when u have some spare time =) as for being close to other countries, as u see in the map, Szczecin is close to Germany, Lublin- Belarus/Ukraine n BiaÅ‚ystok-Belarus GdaÅ„sk is a nice city too cos its by the sea n its pretty as well, there are many foreigners visiting esp durin summer, Warsaw is multicultural there are many different nations there as for the foreign exchange students there are many of em everywhere my cousin is in WrocÅ‚aw (medical school) n she says there are many foreigners but in general we have many foreigners studyin in Poland as exchange students so i bet u wudnt feel alone in here u like the nature but u will be livin in a city so even if u go to Kraków n u will be so close to Zakopane (-mountains, which is our so called winter capital) it doesnt mean u will have time or possibility of goin there n be so close to the nature, maybe u shud be focused on parks n alike? or maybe u wud prefer goin to the less populated city out of all of these? u gotta think bout it =) we have many forests n parks everywhere, just check the sites read bout the cities n choose sth, i dont think that u cud get any answer sayin "go to the city X" ppl from WrocÅ‚aw will recommend u that city, ppl from Kraków will tell u to go to Kraków so its not that reliable right? =) u shud check the univs (their websites if u dont have any info privided by the ortanization who is gonna send u to Poland) n see if there is sth in particular univ u like n the other univs lack it, but if u r into nature as i said we have forests here and alike so it shudnt be a problem to go there n relax =) also i think u will be too busy w/studies to rest much anyway so u wont be able to go camping too often BiaÅ‚ystok http://www.bialystok.pl/site.php?s=MDE4MDI5&lng=en there is a national park nearby BiaÅ‚ystok called BiaÅ‚owieża http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bia%C5%82owie%C5%BCa_National_Park Bydgoszcz http://www.bydgoszcz.eu/ GdaÅ„sk http://www.gdansk.pl/en/ Kraków http://www.krakow.pl/en/?chl=EN Lublin http://www.um.lublin.eu/en/index.php?t=200&id=18284 Åódź (didnt find a site for this city in English, http://www.lodzcity.pl/) PoznaÅ„ http://www.poznan.pl/mim/public/turystyka/index.html?lang=en Szczecin http://www.szczecin.pl/inwestor/uk/index.html Katowice http://www.um.katowice.pl/en/index.php Warszawa http://www.warsawtour.pl/index.php?lang=5&id=& WrocÅ‚aw http://www.wroclaw.pl/ms/english/ go also to wikipedia n get to know some more there bout the cities then decide =)
5 :
I would recommend Szczecin, Krakow, or Warszawa. Szczecin is a pretty small town and are very friendly there. It's also very quiet there. Krakow is also a pretty good town, and Warszawa is the capital of Poland, so I would recommend it but you dont want to be by a city, but there are a few Arab people there. So overall, I would suggest Szczecin. (I'm 100% Polish)
6 :
Wroclaw has a great Medical school. There are many Muslim people living there.- You can find Islamic communities. :) http://www.info.am.wroc.pl/ed/index1024.html http://www.am.wroc.pl/ http://www.islam.info.pl/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=149&Itemid=8
7 :
Wroclaw has muslim people there. Krakow is a nice city to settle in it is right by Zakopane. Zakopane is a mountain/forest area. Warszawa is also a city. They are all very beautiful places. Have fun on your trip!
8 :
If you study Medicine, choose Krakow or Wrocław. In both of these cities the medical universities are the best, you can be sure. Don't worry about your origin! In Kraków and Wrocław, both big cities, nobody cares about it and as somebody has already said, there are many Islamic communities. I would say Kraków is more friendly and calm [a peaceful city with loooong tradition, really friendly people and helpful. I think Wrocław is a city where there are more foreigners. Both cities are near mountain ranges [Wrocław near Sudety, Kraków near Tatry]. I would also say that Kraków is a bit cheaper to live. In concluse.... check Kraków. It has got a very old medicine University, they keep a bit higher level than in other cities in Poland. Good luck! :)
9 :
Krakow! Warszawa is the capital so you can imagine it's a city

How difficult is it to be accepted into Jagellonian University in Krakow, Poland in the medical school?
How difficult is it to be accepted into Jagellonian University in Krakow, Poland in the medical school?
I am an American citizen, whose parents both were born in Poland. Since, I would like to reconnect with my roots, I am wondering how hard is it to get into the Medical school in UJ. I am a highschool student, who is going to be a senior this fall. Also, are there any other medical schools in Poland? Please, keep in mind: that I would like to study medicine in the English language, not in Polish. Thank you!

This is an overall bad idea for following reasons: - I'm not aware of a course in medical school that would be entirely in English, - if you don't have Polish citizenship you will have to pay a lot for tuition, - after completion you won't be able to practice medicine, in Poland you will need to undergo further apprenticeship to be able to practice medicine - can't imagine being able to do so without speaking passable Polish, elsewhere else including the US you will need your qualifications from Poland re-evaluated, - last but not least medicine is one of most corrupt professions in Poland - it is normal and encouraged by the medical community that sons/daughters of doctors enter the profession - others have all kinds of informal difficulties. If I may suggest so I propose that reconsider this and think of other ways of reconnecting with your Polish roots that will not impede your chances of having a career in the medical profession and won't leave a bad aftertaste.

What is the least expensive/easiest way to visit Poland?
What is the least expensive/easiest way to visit Poland?
I am a 20 year old college student from California, and I'm looking to visit Poland, and to research records and places of my Gruszka family from Pultusk, Poland. They were Ashkenazim who were murdered by the Nazi's. What is the easiest and least expensive way for me to visit? Anyone in Poland looking for some company to show around? Almost more importantly is the issue of- what do I do about a place to stay?

The most expensive item should be the air ticket - you should research all special offers, etc. Pułtusk is quite close to Warsaw (about forty miles), so getting there should be fairly easy and cheap.
2 :
There are plenty of hotels in Poland some of them are even named "Holiday INN". You want the cheepest way talk to your parents and see if you have any living family members still in Poland. I'm sure there must be some great aunt or uncle, another way is to look up parishes on the internet contacting them of what you want - to find your family. Church records usually go way back and priests usually speak english. But I would advise that you find your contact before you leave the states.
3 :
Hang around awhile and hope that Genevieve's Mom sees your question. Now, I don't know if her husband and children would let her go to Poland with you but she probably can give you some great tips and advice. She is our Polish and Eastern Europe expert. However, she is usually on the genealogy or the history board. So you might reask your question there and address it to her. She is very very nice and helpful. I think she answered one of your questions on the genealogy board. You can email her through her avatar. According to some cousins of my grandfather, we lost almost everyone in Poland during the Warsaw uprising. The above poster mention churches and she might have not realized that Ashkenazim are Jewish. However, I was told by a Mormon friend(they are experts on genealogy) that Jews were required to register their vital information with the local parish priest or pastor. Seraph said it was true but it is very difficult to get access to those records. Nevertheless, Jewish records can be found in Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran or Evangelical parishes. Hopefully they will eventually be opened up since so much was destroyed during the Holocaust.

Polish language programs in Poland for high school students over the summer?
The Jagellonski University in Krakow offers a fantastic summer program for students, but it's for college students. I'm in high school and I am very much interested in a language learning program for the Polish language, most preferably in Krakow. Does anyone know of any camps or summer programs in Poland like this? Please only answer if you know.

Will I be fine in Poland as a black International student from African?
Will I be fine in Poland as a black International student from African?
I am a Nigerian international student currently studying in Cyprus and will be taking a transfer to Warsaw Poland to finish up my undergraduate degree this October. I am a little worried about the rumor about racism in Poland. In Cyprus where I currently study, we have a lot of blacks and we do just fine. I feel very at home. Can I be like that in Poland? Please can someone give me more information, I am yet to pay the tuition fee. If I pay the tuition fee, then that means am going and if I don't the case will be the reverse. Can someone tell me what likely possible things I might face from the Poles who don't like blacks and in Public places. Will I be able to move around, drive around besides studies? Well you are very correct, I read the story from the internet about the guy who infected many Polish women with AIDS. Well the dude is from Cameroon and I am from Nigeria. We Nigerians are proud of ourselves and I am proud to be one. I am not Cameroonian. There is no way I will have sex with a girl without using condoms. AIDS is not written on any one's face. Lets just say people are just wicked. -------------------------------------------------------- Yes Sarah, I am a Christian, I believe am going to be fine in Poland. You know am just worried about something I have not experienced before. Am just imagining how people will look at me and accept me.

depends on ppl you meet! it's very true what you said, lots of racism there, especially in low cost areas in warsaw. i saw a program on tv lately about students from africa in warsaw... geez, you wouldn't like that! but if you try and get a room in a dorm, it can be safer for you, this is what i would guess... not fun man!!
2 :
Don't listen to stupid rumors. There is no racism in Poland.
3 :
There is as much racism in Poland as in any other country. Depends on the people you meet - just like everywhere. Sometimes, somebody can just have a bad day and be mean to you - which doesn't necessarily mean that they are racist. You'll be just fine in Warsaw. That's a big metropolitan city with people from all over the World. Once you get there ask your school for help when it comes to room and board. Good luck and have fun. Poland is great!
4 :
Drive around - no. You are an African and therefore have no rights to a proper driver's license. Trust me, I know because I live in the EU, come from South Africa and am not allowed to drive with my license. There are a few black people in Warsaw, but not that many. You will be a minority, so deal with it. Most young people are fine, but the older ones are suspicious of anything non-Polish;)
5 :
Well there are racists everywhere actually. But Poland has been through a lot and nothing should happen to you. Be free to go anywhere you want to go. Its not dangerous over there.
6 :
You'll be fine as long as you use the same common sense you would use in any big city that you are not familiar with. I'm not sure about the driving thing unless you plan on renting a car the entire time you are there. I don't know what their licensing laws are. Great city. The only weird thing I can think of is my buddies telling me about a black poet/casanova type who was really popular with the ladies a few years ago. I think he was from Africa as well. Story was something about him befriending many women (emotionally and sexually) and then later leaving the country because he had AIDS (and knew he had it). I'm not sure if this really affected Polish/Black relations though.
7 :
Oh my gosh, all the girls in poland are all over africans, lol if you go you will get lots of girls becuase they are sick of white guys. and the girls are reallly pretty
8 :
I think that your story is very interesting because you don't see very many Africans in Germany or Poland. You will be treated like any other person. If you are a Christian and having trouble with racism(which you might not) contact me and I will help you. my whole family is from Poland, and they own a castle up in Elim.

If you are only going to visit, then visit visa it is;)
2 :
To settle in Poland for good you'd have to marry her and apply for a temporary stay permit. Once you have lived here on that basis for 2 years and have been married to her for 3, you can apply for settlement permit. More about visas and permits: http://www.udsc.gov.pl/GOOD,TO,KNOW,1136.html#1983
3 :
why would you want to live in poland? russia has higher standard of living.
4 :
Poland is a great place to live. You cant move to Russia because it is a very dangarous place to live if you are from another country. You can get beaten or killed in Russia by the neo-Nazis if you are not Russian.

My grandpa said he'd be able to get me a job teaching English over the Summer in Poland, however, I dont even speak Polish. Do you think he's right, that id be able to get a job teaching english without speaking the native language? And also, if i were to get a job there, do you think itd be worth it, or is the polish currency much lower that US, where i wouldnt make too much when i turn it into US money?

Well, as for economics, Poland is an echelon lower than first rate countries (France, America, Italy, Japan etc.) Yet, it is on the highest level of developing from a socialist economy. The economics and financial situation there will be a bit crappier than that of the US, but nothing that is a total game changer. Many Poles know english on survival level. Yet, knowing Polish would be a huge benefit. Would you survive in Poland without Polish, as a teacher? Depends on where you teach, Warshawa (Warsaw) would be easier than, per se, Lublin, a working class town. Will your job be a hell of a lot easier with Polish? Yes. I hope I helped

Student Visa to Poland?
Student Visa to Poland?
Dear all, I have one friend from Thailand who has got student visa in Poland for 5 months. Therfore, I would like to ask some questions about his matter: 1.He told me about his visa in his passport that he has got 5-month visa, is it true? As far as I know, but not so sure, normally student visa(type D) will firstly issued for 3 months then he or she has to renew his or her visa when they arrive one of the country in Europe. 2.With this visa, could he go travelling to another country in Europe? 3.If he would like to change to study in other countries in Europe. is there any possibility? Or, he has to go back to Thailand to apply for visa to the country he would like to go to studying. Finally, if there any more information useful regarding to student visa, I would like to know it too, just for my own knowledge. Thank you very much for your help and kindness.

(1) Not sure about the 5 months. You will have to contact Polish embassy in Thailand about that. (2) Yes, you can travel to any other country in the European Union area with the exception of Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Romania, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and Ireland. You will need to apply for visas to visit those nations. Also you will require visas for non-European Union nations such as Turkey, Albania, Serbia, etc. (3) To study in another country, you will have to submit a new application with the country where he'll want to study in now. He can do that at that nation's embassy in Warsaw. No need to return to Thailand. I'm a student of sociology in the UK. A sandwich generation is basically a society that has a higher population of elderly. They have to take care of their elderly parents and raise children at the same time. this happens in countries where the mortality age is usually 75-80 years. I included a link a bit more about it.

Exchange Student in Poland?
Hey, I am a 15 year old male going considering becoming an exchange student in Poland for a year. I really want to go to a European contry and learn a new language(be conversationaly fluent) Only problem is I don't know if I'll persevere and study the language really hard. I hear Polish is realy hard, and I do not want to go to a country and come back not conversationally fluent( i didnt say fluent, so i dont wanna all those fluent retards who keep arguing over the defination of fluency) So would you recommend poland? i hear the kids are kinda immature, how would they react to a american exchange student? And a year in Poland, would I be pretty good? is it that hard to learn? any tips? thanks! (btw talked to a guy who went for exchange there, came back conversationly fluent, could read harry potter, etc) but i want to ehar more cases!

Rotary would be good for you, I think. Here's a helpful forum. http://www.cultures-shocked.org/forum/?
2 :
Hi! You should look into the top three programs -- AFS, YFU and Rotary Exchange. All are good, not sure all exchange with Poland. You'll need to ask each. Polish is pretty hard -- but then so is German. Nice thing about Poland, there aren't as many people there who speak English fluently so you will HAVE to learn Polish! In many "western" European countries, English is common so it's easy not to have to work so hard -- and you won't become as fluent! You won't be perfect after a year, but you should definitely be able to hold your own in most situations! It would also help if you took some lessons before you went, I'd advise investing in Rosetta Stone -- a great computer program for languages. To hear from other kids who have been on an exchange, try this forum and information center: http://www.exchangestudentworld.com/ And here are the web sites to the three programs I recommended: http://www.yfu.org/ http://www.afs.org/afs_or/home http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYouth/youthprograms/RotaryYouthExchange/Pages/ridefault.aspx Good luck! It sounds like a good exchange -- and different from the usual I here. I'm even considering going there to teach English!

How easy is it to get a Poland Student Visa?
How easy is it to get a Poland Student Visa?
Hi, I've been selected in one University in Poland and I'll be going to the embassy soon for getting the VISA. I've made the payments and I have adequate documents. The embassy demands the following as per the sites: Passport (must be valid for 3 months after planned departure from Poland). One passport-size photo. Completed application form. Evidence of immigration status in country of residence, endorsed in current or previous passport (if applicable). Fee, payable by cash/postal order. Accommodation booking or invitation from friends or family in Poland. An official letter from a college or university. Transport documentation, such as a rail or aeroplane ticket. I have all of them. I just want to know if there is some other thing which I should take care of. Will I get the VISA easily. Just interested in knowing if there is any such fuss or something. If some of you guys have had a personal experience in the embassy, please tell me. I am a bit worried as the VISA is important for me. Your answers are highly appreciated. Thank You.

Getting a student visa (Poland to USA)?
Getting a student visa (Poland to USA)?
If a woman, from, say, Poland were accepted into a local community college, how long would it take for her student visa to be approved? If she applies now, could she attend this fall? Is it an easy process?
Immigration - 3 Answers

1 :
I strongly discourage people to go to the U.S to attend a community college. It is absolutely worthless especially for foreign students. Meanwhile the cost of living will be much higher than Poland. Besides, the chance of getting a student visa for a community college is minimal at best, because it is hard to convince the immigration officer that your real purpose is to study.
2 :
no its hard and you need maybe a year to get one.
3 :
If you have already been admitted and received your I-20, and you have no criminal record or previous history of immigration violations, you should be good to go. You'll get a visa interview and should have your visa about a week or two after the interview. Good luck! P.S. I'd rather try to get into a 4 year university than a community college.

In February you can expect it to be pretty cold, maybe snowing too so you will need a good warm coat, some warm woolly jumpers and a pair of boots to keep out the cold.A couple of scarves and knitted pull on hats to keep your ears warm would be good too and gloves.
2 :
In February it maybe cold.you going to need warm jacket ,boots ,gloves, and you have to be careful how to pack your luggage because some airlines got diffrent rules ,like for example polish LOT -23pounds per person -16kg, and 1 luggage.

Hello, I comfirm others words- in february there will wellcome you a real winter- so take a coat and some warm shoes (do not forget about hat, scarf, gloves- I do not joke- it may be evewn -15degrees and in the morning waiting for tram or bus u will feel it!) In february there also starts here sales- so do not worry if u forget something- u will easy find here anything. I am guessing, that as architecture student, u r going to one of the bigger citie such as- Krakow, Warsaw, Poznan? Each of bigger city in Poland is well connected with citiy-communication, so do not worry. If it is going about baggage- also take some sweaters, but do not forget about t-shirt- in houses we have rather warm (23-25degrees), especcialy in student's one- I remember people dying there cause of hot ;) I suggest you take also some party outfit- students love parties here :) To take notebook for classes is also very comfy and popular- also to the library- we have all these places well adjusted. I also need to warn you- I do not know where you will be living, but take some lock for your suitcase- things happen and better to have percious things locked- just in case Life in Poland is not that expensive, although dollar is not very strong. If you are interested in some more info, u can write me: sicilpol@yahoo.it In general, if you forget something, do not worry- u will find here all u need :) Good luck!

Somebody who plans to take up a job or an assignment for a shorter or longer period of time will need a work/residence permit for that particular Schengen country. Residence and work permits are still governed by the national law of each individual Schengen country. The work/residence permit will be processed by that country and under that country’s law. The Schengen Visa holders are not allowed to live or work permanently in Europe. You may need to leave poland and find an embassy to get a work permit.

Well it would depend on which town you are going to ! However in general. Germany is safer and cleaner. The people really depend on which part. I've been to every big city and many small ones and they are all pretty nice and can speak a fair amount of English. Travel between cities is much more organized and clean but not exactly cheap. It is a huge place with many different things to see and a great culture. Poland is slowly becoming more advanced however most people speak Polish or German only. The towns such as Poznan, Lodz, Opole are not so clean and rather dusty and dark but charming. Krakow is nice and so is Warsaw. I would reccommend Germany. They both are wonderful countries but Germany is a little nicer.
