Student Visa to Poland?

Student Visa to Poland?
Dear all, I have one friend from Thailand who has got student visa in Poland for 5 months. Therfore, I would like to ask some questions about his matter: 1.He told me about his visa in his passport that he has got 5-month visa, is it true? As far as I know, but not so sure, normally student visa(type D) will firstly issued for 3 months then he or she has to renew his or her visa when they arrive one of the country in Europe. 2.With this visa, could he go travelling to another country in Europe? 3.If he would like to change to study in other countries in Europe. is there any possibility? Or, he has to go back to Thailand to apply for visa to the country he would like to go to studying. Finally, if there any more information useful regarding to student visa, I would like to know it too, just for my own knowledge. Thank you very much for your help and kindness.

(1) Not sure about the 5 months. You will have to contact Polish embassy in Thailand about that. (2) Yes, you can travel to any other country in the European Union area with the exception of Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Romania, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom and Ireland. You will need to apply for visas to visit those nations. Also you will require visas for non-European Union nations such as Turkey, Albania, Serbia, etc. (3) To study in another country, you will have to submit a new application with the country where he'll want to study in now. He can do that at that nation's embassy in Warsaw. No need to return to Thailand. Student discounts in Poland?
I was born in Poland, but I live in the USA. I started college this year in the USA and I have a university ID card. Can I get discounts for things like bus&tram&train tickets, or movie theater tickets, in Poland? Or do I need to be studying in Poland? My ID has my (polish) name, picture, name of school (----- University), and the word STUDENT.

I'm a student of sociology in the UK. A sandwich generation is basically a society that has a higher population of elderly. They have to take care of their elderly parents and raise children at the same time. this happens in countries where the mortality age is usually 75-80 years. I included a link a bit more about it.
